Civil War Veteran. Entered service on 31 October 1861 at Jeffersonville,Indiana. Served with the 49th Indiana Infantry Company A.Was awarded The Medal Of Honor for action on 17 May 1863 as a 1st Sergeant at Black River bridge,Mississippi.while under the command of General Lawler they struck the enemy and nearly all the Officers were shot down. He found himself in command of his company.When nearing the enemy he leaped a ten foot ditch landing on a pile of planks.he quickly throw them over the opening for his men to cross over.They captured many guns and prisoners.More than men in his Company.He was promoted to First Lieutenant afterwards.Served until the last shot was fired discharged on 13 September 1865.Presented The Medal Of Honor on 12 February 1894. Died at West Baden, Indiana on 14 August 1920.
