ENLISTED ON 3 JANUARY 1941 AT LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY. A PEARL HARBOR SURVIVOR. REPORTED ABOARD THE USS PHELPS DD-360, A PORTER CLASS DESTROYER ON 22 APRIL 1941. SHOT DOWN ONE JAPANESE PLANE ON 7 DECEMBER 1941. PART OF TASK FORCE 11 IN ATTACK ON HUON GULF AND SALAMAUA, NEW GUINEA MARCH, 1942. 3 MARCH 1942, BATTLE OF CORAL SEA AS ESCORT FOR THE USS YORKTOWN. JUNE, 1942 BATTLE OF MIDWAY AND GUADALCANAL. REPORTED ABOARD THE USS ENDICOTT DD-495, A GLEAVES CLASS DESTROYER ON 8 OCTOBER 1942. GUN FIRE SUPPORT FOR ATTACK ON SAIPAN THEM STEAMED FOR CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA AND ESCORT DUTY WITH THE ATLANTIC FLEET TO AFRICA, IRELAND, PANAMA. IN JULY, 1944 SANK A GERMAN MERCHANTMAN AND DESTROYED TWO GERMAN WAR SHIPS. JANUARY, 1945 PART OF TASK FORCE 21.5 ESCORTING THE USS QUINCY CA-71 TO YALTA AND BACK TO NEW YORK WITH PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT ABOARD. RATE OF ELECTRICIAN'S MATE FIRST CLASS PETTY OFFICER.
