JOHN LASHBROOK

Buried: Rev. War Soldier John Lashbrook
is buried on land where the Lashbrooks family settled when they came to Orange
County. This grave is located in Setion 26 in the Northeast portion of Jackson
Twp.
Service: According to family tradition, John Lashbrook and a
brother were Hessian soldiers who deserted and joined the Continentals. They
were mustered out in Virginia, moved to Kentucky, and eventually came to
Indiana.

Directions: Take State Hwy 145 south of French Lick for about 4
miles or less, then turn west onto CR 450, go about 1/4 mile or less to 7876 W
CR 450S to the home of Denver Emmons, 7876 W CR 450S, on the west side of the
road. The grave sits up the top of the steep hill behind the house.

Jackson Twp. Sec 26 - T.1 N.-R 2 W.
Near the North boundary line of Jackson Township, on the farm where the
Lashbrooks family settled when they came to Orange Co., and which yet belongs to
Lashbrooks descendants, is a lone grave with sand stone marker with date 1820
cut on it, no other inscription. According to family tradition, John Lashbrooks
and a brother were Hessian soldiers who left the British army and joined the
Continentals, were mustered out in Virginia, went to Kentucky, and John
eventually came to Indiana. However, both a William and a John are named as
early settlers, and probate record show that in September, 1820, James Rodin
returned a list of appraisement of property of William Lashbrooks, deceased.
His name has been John William. The names John and William have been much used
among descendants. John, son of the supposed soldier, was born Dec 25, 1794 and
died in 1884. His mother had died after the family came to Indiana, but before
they arrived in Orange Co. He is named as head of family in census of 1820,
with wife, three son and two daughters He is buried at Moore's Ridge cemetery.
