ENLISTED ON 4 OCTOBER 1943. SERVED ON THE USS SARATOGA CV-3 IN THE FOLLOWING CAMPAIGNS GILBERT ISLANDS, MARSHALL ISLANDS, IWO JIMA AND CHICHI JIMA. ATTACKED BY 6 JAPANESE AIRCRAFT WHICH SCORED 5 BOMB HITS IN 3 MINUTES LOSING 123 CREWMEN. RETURNED TO BREMERTON, WASHINGTON 16 MARCH 1945 FOR REPAIRS AND MODIFICATION TO A TRAINING SHIP. RATING MAILMAN SECOND CLASS PETTY OFFICER.
