ENLISTED ON 15 DECEMBER 1941. ASSIGNED TO THE USS OMAHA CL-4, LEAD SHIP OF OMAHA CLASS LIGHT CRUISERS. SERVED WITH THE ATLANTIC FLEET. 9 FEBRUARY 1944 ASSIGNED TO THE USS ATR-15, AN ATR 1 CLASS RESCUE TUG ASSIGNED TO THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN THEATER OF OPERATIONS, LOST ON 19 JUNE 1944 BY GROUNDING OFF NORMANDY, FRANCE. ASSIGNED TO THE USS LSM-301, MEDIUM LANDING SHIP OF THE LMS CLASS ASSIGNED TO THE ASIATIC-PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. RATING OF MACHINIST'S MATE FIRST CLASS PETTY OFFICER.
