ACTIVITY DURING WWII

ENLISTED ON 7 JUNE 1942 AT LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY. REPORTED ABOARD THE USS CHARLES CARROLL APA-28, A CRESCENT CITY CLASS ATTACK TRANSPORT. NOVEMBER, 1942 MADE LANDINGS ON NORTH AFRICA AND RETURNED TO NORFOLK, VIRGINIA. DECEMBER, 1942 SAILED FOR THE PACIFIC STRIKING A MINE IN THE CANAL ZONE. AFTER REPAIRS RETURNED TO THE CHESAPEAKE BAY FOR TRAINING. JUNE, 1943 CARRIED THE 40TH ENGINEER COMBAT REGIMENT TO ORAN AND SICILY FOR THE INVASION. SEPTEMBER, 1943 INVASION OF ITALY. JUNE, 1944 LANDED THE 29TH INFANTRY DIVISION ON OMAHA BEACH. AUGUST, 1944 THE INVASION OF SOUTHERN FRANCE. JANUARY, 1945 SAILED FOR THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. MARCH, 1945 INVASION OF OKINAWA CARRYING THE 1ST MARINE DIVISION. RETURNED TO SAN FRANCISCO IN AUGUST, 1945. DISCHARGED IN OCTOBER, 1945 WITH RATING OF BOATSWAIN'S MATE SECOND CLASS PETTY OFFICER.
