ACTIVITY DURING WWII
ENTERED SERVICE ON 2 MARCH 1944 AT INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA. REPORTED ABOARD THE USS BUSH (DD-529) ON 19 MAY 1944 IN THE ASIATIC-PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. THE SHIP WAS HIT BY A JAPANESE SUICIDE PLANE 'JILL' ON THE STARBOARD SIDE. THE DAMAGE WAS SO GREAT THE SHIP COULD NOT RECOVER AND SANK AT 18:30 HOURS ON 6 APRIL 1945 NORTHWEST OF OKINAWA. HE IS LISTED AS MISSING IN ACTION. HE WAS AWARDED THE BRONZE STAR AND PURPLE HEART.
