Mustered in on 24 February 1862 at New Albany, Indiana. Served with the 53rd Indiana Infantry Company K. 26 February moved to Indianapolis, Indiana to guard prisoners.15 March 1862 moved to Louisville, Kentucky and on to Savannah, Tennessee. 15 April 1862 moved to Corinth and engaged in siege. September 1862 moved to Bolivar. October 1862 engaged at Hatchie Bridge and on to North Mississippi and back to Moscow and Memphis, Tennessee. April 1863 was part of 3rd Brigade 4th Division 16th Corps the Army of Tennessee and joined in the siege of Vicksburg.September 1863 located at Natchez where Regiment was attached to the 17th Corps and moved into Louisiana where they were engaged and returned to Vicksburg. February 1864 joined in Meridian Campaign and joined Sherman's Army at Acworth, Georgia 6 June 1864 and participated in most of the battles in the Atlanta Campaign.After the fall of Atlanta joined in the pursuit of General Hood. November 1864 advanced on Savannah,Georgia and on to the campaign of the Carolinas halting at Goldsboro. Moved on to Washington, D.C. and Louisville, Kentucky. Mustered out on 21 July 1865.
