October 14, 1897.......Relatives and friends numbering 155 persons, with baskets filled with good grub, visited Grandma Apple at the home of her son, Lewis Apple, who resides on the old homestead where she and her husband, Jesse Apple, settled when they, in company with six other families, emigrated from Orange County, North Carolina in 1836.

There were six brothers and one sister in the company of emigrates, William, Eli, Thomas, Jesse, John, and Moses Apple, and wife of Joe Willard.

Grandma is the only one of that number living. She is 95 years old. She is the mother of 12 children. Two died in infancy, ten lived to become grown, five sons and five daughters. Four sons died in defense of their country in the War of the Rebellion.

Her husband died February 22, 1895. One son and three daughters are yet living. Grandma has 34 grandchildren, 84 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
