Greenfield Township, Section 26 - T1S R1W and Section 24 - T1S R1W

There are two known Critchfield Cemeteries in Greenfield Township, Orange County, Indiana. All persons known to be buried in the two are included in the Critchfield Cemetery on-line listing. The oldest cemetery is in Section 24, T1S R1W and is located on the farm which was owned for many years by John William Condra whose wife, Oma Noblitt, is a descendant of Amos Critchfield Sr. This land was entered by James Critchfield in 1818. There are perhaps a dozen graves in the little burial plot, only 2 having inscriptions: Amos Critchfield Sr., who was the father of Amos Critchfield Jr. listed in the second cemetery and Mary Stone who was the granddaughter of Amos Sr. Her parents, William and Amelia Stone, are buried at Providence Cemetery. This is located about 1/4 mile south of SR37 on the ProvidenceChurch road(12 mile south of Paoli) on the farm now owned by Charles and Georgia Condra Ferree.

The second cemetery is located in Section 26, T1-S, R1-W. It is abandoned and the location is unknown by this writer. Critchfield families were among the early settlers in the township. Amos Critchfield entered land in the southwest of this section in 1854. In 1830, he taught school in Providence log meeting house. His wife was Susanna Real. The little cemetery is on their farm. Some of the markers have fallen. Besides six marble stones with inscriptions, there are a few sand stone markers, evidently graves of children. The inscriptions were copied by James L. Noblitt.
