The father of Lemuel George Charnes/Carnes was Josiah Harris Charnes. The Rev. Lemuel Carnes was born at French Lick, Indiana on September 23,1874, and married Mary Maude Gerkin on April 23, 1903, at Orangeville, Indiana. He was admitted in the Methodist Church Indiana conference in 1906. During his years of active ministry, he served the following charges: Elizabeth, Newtonville, Pekin, Marengo, Chrisney, Cynthiana, Farmersburg, Hamilton, Poneto, Harlan, Amboy, Beech Grove, and in Indianapolis (Heath Memorial, Edgewood and Blaine Avenue), Lawrence and Cannelton, Indiana.
