I am still working on the Duggins line. Although some of the Duggins family were farmers, several were merchants who owned and operated several businesses in Orange county, not only in Paoli but in the former town of Dumplin or Fargo.


First Generation

1. James Duggins. Born 1818 in Kentucky. Died Oct 1869/1870. Occupation Farmer. He married Emily Naylor. Born 1825 in Kentucky. They had the following children:


Second Generation

2. Thomas N. Duggins. Born 7 Jul 1838 in Kentucky. Died 30 May 1875 in Trimble County Kentucky. Occupation Carpenter. Thomas N. Duggins was a private in the Union Army. He enrolled in the 54th Kentucky Volunteers company B which was a mounted calvary unit at the age of 26. The date of enrollment was September 23, 1864. He was mustered in October 29, 1864 at New Castle, Kentucky. He was mustered out November the 1st, 1865 in Louisville.

He married Mary Ann Taylor, daughter of Isaac Taylor & Sarah, 15 Aug 1858 in Trimble County, Kentucky. Born 1 May 1837 in Indiana. Died 24 Dec 1916 in English, IN. Buried in Providence Cemetery. They had the following children:

3. Kendrick Duggins. Born 1842. Enlisted in the Confederacy on November 10, 1862. He joined the 4th Regiment Company A. He was transfered to Hawkins Regiment May 27,1863 and returned July 10, 1863.

4. Smith Duggins. Born 1845. He married Nancy Jane Canada, 5 Dec 1867 in Trimble County, KY. Born 1841. They had the following children:

5. James P. Duggins. Born 1847. He married Sarah Elizabeth Rucker, 16 Sep 1869 in Trimble County, KY.

6. W.G. Duggins. Born 1850.

7. Simeon Duggins. Born 1853.

8. Emerine Duggins. Born 30 Oct 1855. She married Alfred Reno, 4 Jan 1872 in Trimble County, KY. Born 1852.

9. Angeline Duggins. Born 17 Mar 1857. She married John T. Reno, 23 Dec 1875.

10. Nannie Duggins. Born 1862. She married James Stanley, 8 Dec 1880 in Trimble County, Kentucky. Born 1855.


Third Generation

11. James William Duggins. Born 5 Jan 1867 in Trimble County, KY. Died 26 Jan 194865. Buried in Providence Cemetery. He married Mary Francis Condra, daughter of John Emory Condra & Rachel Priscilla Dillard, 27 Jul 1887. Born 24 Aug 1868. Died 23 Jun 1939. They had the following children:

12. Mary Catherine Duggins. Born 19 Jul 1871.

13. Jesse Newton Duggins. Born 1 May 1874. Died 30 Nov 1938. Buried in Oakhill Cemetery Evansville, IN. Occupation Teamster. He married Gabriella Ellis. Born Apr 1874. Died 2 Mar 1947. They had the following children:

14. Emily Jane Duggins. Born 13 Oct 1859. She married Warner Ashbury Riley, 1876 in Bedford, KY.

15. Sarah Thomas Duggins. Born 7 May 1864. She married David Sillings. Born 1845.

16. Had 9 children Duggins.

17. Elanorah Duggins. Born 28 Jun 1862. Died 30 Apr 1876.

18. Harry Duggins. He married Mollie Jones, 9 Oct 1891 in Trimble County, KY. Born 1873.


Fourth Generation

19. Claude William Duggins. Born 19 Jun 1888. Died 4 Dec 1945. Buried 6 Dec 1945 in Roselawn Cemetery Terre Haute. Occupation Worked sawmills and oil fields, butcher shop. He second married Ruby Opal Mathers, daughter of Andrew (Andy) Mathers & Mary Ella Moore, 11 Aug 1920 in English, Indiana. Born 27 Aug 1896 in English, Indiana. Died 23 Jun 1987 in Mitchell, Indiana. 8th grade education. Religion Christian (Baptist). They had the following children:

He first married Bessie Shamheart. She died in the flu epedemic shortly after the birth of Robert They had the following children:

20. Lula M. Duggins. Born 22 Jun 1902. Died 7 Jan 1996. Lula worked in Hubert's restaurant when she was younger. She married Carol (Carl) Hammonds, 6 May 1923. They had the following children:

21. James Hubert Duggins. Born 11 Aug 1893. Died 24 Apr 1962. Hubert looked somewhat Jewish in appearance. During the time when he operated his restaurant there was some antisemitism displayed as some patrons would get up and leave upon seeing Hubert. He and Pearl also had a hardware store and later a bowling alley. He married Pearl J. Mathers, 11 Aug 1920.

22. Louis Duggins. Born 24 Feb 1904. Died 6 Dec 1905.

23. Ermel Duggins. Born 31 Mar 1907. Died 24 May 1908.

24. Harry E. Duggins. Born 11 Mar 1893. Died 14 Sep 1974. He married Lois Trinkle, 5 Aug 1913. They had the following children:

25. Mary Ann Duggins. Born 9 May 1890. Died 26 Feb 1892.

26. Oren Duggins. Born 26 Dec 1893. Died 24 Sep 1900.

27. Marie Duggins. Born Mar 1898. She married Otto Hohl.
