The Homestead Hotel was owned by Ed Ballard and was the original site of the Dead Rat Saloon, and later became the West Baden Motor Inn. This photo shows it in a very deteriorated state, badly needing restoration. Ed Ballard was the owner of the Brown casino, Hoosier Country Club, and West Baden Springs Hotel.
