John Elmer Trotter was the ninth child of Cyrus N. Trotter and Mary Marshall Trotter. He was born February 2, 1867 and died February 23, 1961 at the home of his daughter, Iva, in Paoli, In. He is buried in the old cemetery at Paoli.
On February 27, 1887 he married Louella Trueblood, the daughter of William and Nancey Trueblood. She was born September 1, 1865 in the vicinity of Beech Grove near Paoli and died January 27, 1944 at her home near Chambersburg, In. She was 78.
They had four children, the last two of which were twins:

Bertie Ermine Trotter, born September 12, 1892
Dessie Lorraine Trotter, born March 7, 1898
Bessie Irene Trotter, born March 7, 1898
