Mayme Agnes Swift b. 11-17-1896 d. 3-24-1962

Mayme was the eighth child of PollyAnn and William T.Swift , Jr. She attended school at Paoli High School (class of 1917) , Indiana State Univ., Indiana Central College and Butler University.
She first taught school in one-room schools in the vicinity of Newton Stewart and Elon, Indiana until the death of her mother in 1925. She then moved to Indianapolis, where she owned property and made her home with her brother, Emil.
She taught school at Bluff Avenue and University Heights grade schools in Perry Township of Marion County of Indiana. Finally, she taught in the City of Indianapolis public school system until just before her death. She was highly respected by her professional peers and would very quietly go an extra mile on behalf of her students or friends.
She was a member of the Eastern Star and was active in Sunday School teaching programs and wrote several articles on the subject. She was the author of a book named "Nehe, The Story of a Great Builder", a children's story based on the life of Nehemiah. She was never married.
She is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery south of Indianapolis.
