Submitted by Howard E. Grider

Rebecca Jane Kellams and husband, Benjamin
Butler Owen taken about 1915.

Rebecca Jane, daughter of James and Leah Kellams, was born January 15, 1865 and peacefully fell asleep on Thursday morning, February 17, 1938 at the age of 73 years, 1 month, and 2 days.

She was one of the family of seven children, only two of whom survive; namely, Mrs. Mary Clements (Jesse N.) and Mr. Tilford Kellams.

On November 27, 1881 she was united in marriage to Benjamin Butler Owen to whom she was a devoted and faithful companion for over 56 years. To this union were born 13 children, 5 of whom have preceded her in death; namely, Tilford, Eldo, Clinton, Otto, and Ollie. She leaves to mourn her departure besides her bereaved husband, the following children; Clyde Owen, Pearl Mills (John W.) and Clara Walters (Charles A.) of Elon, Indiana, Claude Owen of Reynolds, Indiana, Henry Owen, Cleo Owen and Stella Simmons (Glenn E.) of Gary, Indiana, Lela Collins (Virgil) of Cuzco, Indiana; also 50 grandchildren, one of whom, Carl Owen, made his home with her from infancy and to whom she has been a mother; and 14 great-grandchildren. besides her immediate family she leaves a host of other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.

She united with the Christian Church in Elon in August, 1913, later moving her membership to Cane Creek where she remained a faithful member until Christ called her home.

We have lost her in the home, in the church and in the community but our loss is heaven's gain and her memory will live with us until we meet her in the skies.
