condition.  Clifford loved to golf and also enjoyed his basketball-playing days in  high school.  After graduation, he followed his two older brothers to Indianapolis
where work was plentiful.  He worked for Zimmer Paper Products and as an insurance agent for Washington National.  He enlisted into the U.S. Coast Guard in April 1942 and after basic training was shipped immediately to Hawaii without leave, where he remained for two years.  After a month's leave, he was sent to the Munising Coast Guard Station at Sand Point where he was stationed for six months.  He was then sent to Groton, Connecticut and to San Diego, California where he was discharged as Electrician's Mate 1st Class in October 1945.  He returned to Munising, working for a short time at the Munising Woodenware and then at the Munising Paper Company for 15 years in the Data Processing Dept.  On Oct. 4, 1947, he married Ingrid Baij, daughter of the late John and Dicka Baij of Munising.  Clifford was Past Master and Lifetime member of the Grand Island Masonic Lodge #422 in Munising.  Clifford and Ingrid and their two daughters Christine and Patricia, moved to Phoenix, Arizona in the early 60's.  In Phoenix, Clifford worked for Reynolds Metals, City of Phoenix and Motorola in Data Processing for many years.  The last 10 years, before he retired in 1983, he was with Arizona Dept. of Transportation as a driver's license examiner, mostly in the Scottsdale office.  Clifford and Ingrid sold their home in Phoenix, and moved to a mobile home park in Apache Junction, AZ in December 1990.  Clifford was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police (F.O.P.), Arizona Saguero Lodge #23.  He enjoyed bowling and golfing while at Motorola and in Munising.  Clifford was living at the Apache Junction Health Care Center, Apache Junction from September 24, 2002 until his death on April 10, 2003.

Like a ship that's left its mooring
And sails bravely out to sea
So Someone Dear has sailed away
In calm serenity;
But thre's promis of greate joy
Than Earth could have in store
For God has planned a richer life
Beyond the Unseen Shore.

John Newton Crowe was born to George W. and Catherine Jane Condra Crowe on Nov. 11, 1861, near Tompkinsville, Ky.  At the age of six years he and his parents came to Orange County, Indiana, where he continued to reside until one year ago.  For the past year he has lived in Washington County where he added many new names to his long list of friends.

Grandpa, as he was better known by most people, was married Dec. 7, 1882, to Rebecca  Elizabeth Morgan.  Their companionship was destined to be short-lived, for she left him after they had been together only eight years.

He continued to keep a home for their four children: Clint, who was called in 1941; Delbert and Della, twins, who remain to mourn his passing; and Ella Elizabeth, who stayed with him only one year.  Two unnamed babies had preceded his wife in death.

In 1922, under to pastorate of Elder Volney T. Trimble, God found His way into Grandpa's heart at the Briner Springs Church of Christ.  Since that time, although he was not able to attend church regularly, he has been a very steady worker for God.

For the past several years he has been at home with Delbert and his family where he answered his Master's call Jan. 17, 1948, aged 86 years, two months and six days.

Besides the twins, Delbert and Della, he leaves one brother, Henry C. Crowe, eight grand-children, eight great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may knowhow frail I am.

Behold thou hast made my days as a handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee; verily every man at his best states is altoghether vanity.

And now, Lord, what wait I for?  My hope is in Thee.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
