Harvey E. Arney, age 72, of French Lick, Indiana passed away May 17th, 2013 at his residence in French Lick, Indiana.

He was born on April 2nd, 1941 to Fred and Minnie Alma “Lacey” Arney.

He is preceded in death by his parents, (2) brothers, (3) sisters and (1) son.

He attended the Springs Valley Wesleyan Church in French Lick, Indiana.

He was an owner/operator over the road truck driver.
He is survived by:

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, May 21st, 2013 at the Springs Valley Wesleyan Church in French Lick, Indiana. Friends may call from 12:00 NOON until the time of service on Tuesday.

Burial will follow in the Cuzco Cemetery in Cuzco, Indiana.

Helen L. (Mahan) Beatty, 89 years young, of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on March 18th, 2016 at I.U. Health Paoli in Paoli, Indiana.

She was born in West Baden Springs, Indiana on March 31st, 1926 to Lacy C. Mahan and Esther M. (Pinnick) Mahan.

Helen married her love of over 50 years, Robert W. Beatty on November 15th, 1947 and he preceded her in death on April 3rd, 2001.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, (1) Sister – Geneva Mahan, (1) Brother – Wallace Mahan and Twin Great-Granddaughters – Lilah Grace and Libby Joy Beatty.

Helen was a member of the First Baptist Church in West Baden Springs, Indiana, graduated from the West Baden High School with the Class of 1945 and was a member of the PSI IOTA XI sorority.

Helen was a homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked in retail sales at Allbright’s Grocery, The Little Dress Shop, Beatty’s Village Post and The Gift Box.

Neoma L. Brown, age 83, of Jasper, Indiana passed away on Thursday, August 22nd, 2013 at her residence.

She was born Detroit, Michigan on March 10th, 1930 to Chester and Eunice “Stokes” Hughey.

She married Ernest Brown and he preceded her in death.

Neoma is also preceded in death by her parents and (1) Son – Richard J. Albright, (1) Daughter – Tammy S. Green and (3) Brothers – Robert “Little Bob” Hughey, Neil Hughey and Carlton Hughey.

She was in the food service industry and had previously worked as a Dispatcher at the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

She is survived by:

Mary E. Burton, age 90, of French Lick, Indiana passed away at Medco Health and Rehabilitation, French Lick, Indiana on November 14, 2013.

She was born on April 18, 1923 in French Lick, Indiana to Eli E. Pruett and Matilda Pruett.

She married Bertie Burton on March 30, 1969 and he preceded her in death on August 22, 1977. Her parents also preceded her in death.

Mary was a member of Springs Valley Wesleyan Church, French Lick, Indiana.

Survivors:   Caregivers Lee and Ann Troutman French Lick, Indiana

The funeral service will be Monday November 18th, 2013, 11:00   A. M   at the Brosmer-Kemple Funeral Home
Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. on Monday November 18th until the time of service.

Burial will follow in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, French Lick, Indiana.

Eric Carnes, age 45, of French Lick, Indiana passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 9th, 2013 at his home in French Lick, Indiana.

He was born on December 24th, 1967 to Bob and Rita “Stackhouse” Carnes.

He is preceded in death by his father, Bob Carnes on May 2nd, 2011.

Eric was baptized at the Springs Valley Christian Church and attended the Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church in French Lick, Indiana.

He graduated from Springs Valley High School in 1986.

He worked at Indiana Furniture in Jasper, Indiana.

He is survived by:

Jerry L. Denbo, age 63, of French Lick, Indiana passed away on February 24th, 2014 at his residence.

He was born on April 24th, 1950 in Bedford, Indiana to Hollis and Carol “Fisher” Denbo.

He was preceded in death by his parents – father Hollis in 1993 and mother Carol in 2010 and (1) Brother Jimmy in 2007.

Jerry graduated with the Springs Valley High School Class of 1968, graduated from Indiana University in 1972 with a Master’s Degree in Education, taught school at the West Washington High School from 1972-1973 and Springs Valley High School from 1973-1979 and served as State Representative for District 62 from 1990-2007.

In between teaching and being a State Representative, Jerry sold insurance for Prudential Insurance Company.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in West Baden Springs, Indiana and also attended the Christian Church of Jasper in Jasper, Indiana. He was also a member of Newton Stewart Lodge #432 F&AM.

He is survived by:

Hazel L. Elkins, age 97, of French Lick passed away January 7th, 2013 at IU Health Paoli Hospital in Paoli, Indiana.

She was born on January 20th, 1915 to Edward Elkins and Eva “Eichmiller” Elkins.

She worked at the Sheraton and French Lick Springs Hotels for 35 years. In 1990, she retired at the age of 75 as an Assistant Supervisor in the Linen Room. She attended the Wesleyan Church in French Lick, Indiana and she loved her Lord and Savior.

Hazel was a 42 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary in French Lick. She always worked the Christmas dinners at the American Legion up to the present time. She enjoyed the senior citizens quilting and all the activities. Hazel was very active and always ready to lend a hand.

She is preceded in death by her parents, (5) Brothers – Richard, Walter, Frtiz, Van and Bill and (4) Sisters – Fern, Edna, Maggie and EllaMae.

She is survived by:

David Lee Farris, 65, of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on March 27th, 2016 at IU Health Paoli in Paoli, Indiana.

He was born in Orange County, Indiana on February 6th, 1951 to Russell (Tom) E. Farris Sr. and Betty Jane (Flick) Farris.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

David graduated with the Springs Valley High School Class of 1969, was a former member of the West Baden Community Park Board, the West Baden Springs Fire Department, the Springs Valley Exchange Club and the French Lick American Legion Post 76.

David is survived by:

Agnes (Dallas) Goldman, age 97, of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on October 28th, 2015 at her residence.

She was born in Talbott, Indiana on August 24th, 1918 to Tilson and Edna (Mitchell) Dallas.

She married Farwell “Doc” Goldman and he preceded her in death on April 6th, 1999.

Agnes was also preceded in death by her parents and (1) Brother - Harold “Spud” Dallas.

She was a member of the Moores Ridge United Methodist Church where she served as church pianist for many years. Her love for playing the piano started at the young age of 16.  Agnes was also a member of Home Extension Club of Orange County.  

She graduated from Boswell High School in Boswell, Indiana.

She is survived by:

Gladys Young Sterry Hall, age 90, of West Baden Springs, Indiana entered into eternal rest on September 8th, 2015 at Springs Valley Meadows in French Lick, Indiana.

Gladys was born in Dubois County, Indiana on February 11, 1925 to Harle Cox and Ella Belle
(Tabor) Cox.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands - Bill Sterry, Bob Young and Frank Hall.
(1) Son - Robert Wayne Young on August 7th, 2015, (2) Brothers - Warren Cox and Donald Cox Johnson and (3) Sisters - Maurice Tedrow, Lorraine Gammon and Ada Buffington.

Gladys worked at the West Baden College for 8 years.

She was a member of 1st Baptist Church in Hammond, Indiana.

Emery Robert Johnson, age 88, of West Baden Springs, Indiana passed away on July 6, 2014, at Medco Health and Rehabilitation Center French Lick, Indiana.

He was born on May 26th, 1926 in Bloomington, Indiana to Elva Johnson and Martha “Thayer” Johnson.

Emery married Betty Tarr on March 15th, 1957.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, (2) sisters and (1) brother.

Emery was a member of the Church of Christ and graduated with the Orleans High School Class of 1944.

He was self-employed and ran his own sawmill.

He is survived by:

Claude “Gene” King, age 86, of French Lick, Indiana passed away August 20th, 2013 at Medco Health and Rehabilitation in French Lick, Indiana.

He was born on September 1st, 1927 to Claude Emmitt and Mary Olive “Followell” King.

He married Renolda Morrow on August 5th, 1950.

He was preceded in death by his parents, (2) Brothers, (2) Sisters and (1) Grandson.

Gene was a member of the West Baden First Baptist Church and graduated from Bedford High School in 1946.

He was the florist for the French Lick Springs Resort for 33 years.  

He is survived by:

Roberta Powell, daughter of Claude and Mary Jane Anderson Beyers was born March 20, 1920, in Orange County, Indiana.  She departed this life July 4, 2014.

In 1937, Roberta was united in marriage to Homer Brown.  They had two children, Doreatha Walls of Fort Wayne and Clark Brown of Bedford.  In 1948, she was married to Carl Powell.  They had three children, Mike Powell of Paoli, Kenny Powell French Lick, and Marsha Andrews of West Baden.

Preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters Edith and Ethel, and five brothers Loranza, Leroy, Chester, Claude, and Manford.  Roberta was a member of the Springs Valley Church of the Nazarene.

Roberta loved to mushroom hunt in the spring.  She would fry them and take them to family and friends.  She and Carl had a camper and enjoyed trips to South Carolina to fish and see the fall colors.  She talked about the pretty mountains.

She loved her flowers and her herbs.  She liked to play Bingo at the Senior Citizens Center and continued to play at Medco.  Roberta liked to cook.  She made great hot rolls and chicken and dumplings.  She loved to play Skip Bo and it made her happy to beat Richard or anyone else at that game.

Going out to eat was something she enjoyed.  She made many quilts, afghans, scarfs, and hats.  She kept her hands busy for as long as she could.

Roberta will be missed by her family.  Surviving are daughter Doreatha (Richard) Walls, son Clark (Carolyn) Brown, son Mike (Mary Lou) Powell, son Kenny (Donna) Powell, daughter Marsha (Kenny) Andrews, and brother Jim (Royce) Springer.  She will also be missed by her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Services are to be held Monday, July 7, at 1:30 PM at the Brosmer-Kemple Funeral Home.  Friends may call from 11:30 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Reverend Darrell Wineinger will officiate.  The family thanks Darrell for all the visits he made to her.

Burial will follow in the Ames Chapel Cemetery in Paoli, Indiana.


Felix J. Rainey, Sr., age 78, of French Lick, Indiana passed away November 15, 2013 at I.U. Health Hospital in Paoli, Indiana.

He was born on August 12, 1935 to Louis L. Rainey and Laura Frelix Rainey at New Orleans, La.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Charles, Robert, and Oscar.

He was a server and bartender and served in the U.S. Air Force.

Hollace E. Roach, age 86, of French Lick, Indiana entered in eternal rest on November 15th, 2015 at her residence.

She was born in Dubois County, Indiana on September 27th, 1929 to Frank and Charlotte (Cox) Thompson.

Hollace married Louie Edward Roach on July 20th, 1952 and he preceded her in death on July 5th, 2013.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and (2) two sisters.

Hollace was a member of the Red Quarry Christian Church in French Lick, Indiana.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by:

Frankie D. Self, 74, of West Baden Springs, Indiana passed away on Thursday, May 28th, 2015 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

He was born on September 16th, 1940 in French Lick, Indiana to the late Harold Dean Self and Gertrude (Willoughby) Self.

He married Thelma McFarland on June 19th, 1960 and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and (2) Sisters – Roberta Self and Marie Tolbert.

Frankie was a member of the Beechwood Christian Church where he served as an elder and had previously served as a Board President. He loved woodworking, spending time with his family, fishing and taking walks.

He was a player on the famed 1958 Springs Valley Basketball Team and Graduated with the Springs Valley Class of 1959.

Frankie worked at the Springs Valley Herald and then retired from Texas Eastern Gas Company after working there for 19 years.

He is survived by

Richard “Dick” Tuell, age 80, of French Lick, Indiana passed away January 10th, 2013 at IU Health Paoli Hospital in Paoli, Indiana.

He was born on May 12th, 1932 in Orange Co. to John Tuell and Florence Jones Tuell.

He is preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters, infant daughter and infant Grandson.

Irene Kathleen Land Walters

Irene "Jean" was born in French Lick, Indiana on September 6, 1933 to the loving family of Lynden Lester Land and Susie Lanie Emmons Land. She had an older brother, Lester, who preceded her in death, and two younger sisters, Mildred (David Merkel) and Nancy Sue (Frank Hobson). In addition to her immediate family, her aunt Nellie Crowe’s family played an important part of her development. There were always special Thanksgiving and Easter dinners shared between the two families and many Sunday afternoons were spent together. Many happy times were also spent with cousins from the Land family. Irene graduated from West Baden High School Class of 1951 and she spent her entire life in French Lick. She was married to Kenneth "Kenny" Walters and they had two children, Cheryl (Chuck) Quinn and Kevin (Terri) Walters. She also had two grandsons, Brycen (Dena) and Yancey (Jenni) and she was totally devoted to them as they grew up. The family enjoyed traveling and visited most of the United States and parts of Canada. A highlight was a visit to the World’s Fair when it was held in Montreal, Canada. Other special trips were those to Florida and the Keys where they enjoyed fishing. She devoted her entire life to her family and friends. The loving relationship with her two sisters was a source of joy as well as support for each of them as they shared life experiences. Many high school friends were important to her and she maintained contact with them. Some of these friends continued to call her throughout her illness.

She helped run the family business until she became too ill to do so. Irene had many talents. She not only had the gift of painting, but also was an excellent floral designer and used that gift when the family had a floral business. She
designed flowers for many weddings and other special occasions. She was also musically gifted and played the piano and organ and she played the piano for her church.

Irene became a Christian at an early age and was committed throughout her life. She was active in the Springs Valley Christian Church and could always be counted on to help cook and serve dinners, clean the church or be sure it had just the right decorations to make it an attractive place for the services. Her church family played an important role in her life. She learned early in life to be generous and available to help those in need. In addition to her husband, children and two grandsons, she had one great granddaughter, Scout Walters.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Lester, her parents and grandparents.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 3rd, 2012 in the chapel of the Brosmer-Kemple Funeral Home. Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 PM on Friday, November 2nd, 2012 and from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Saturday.

Robert “Bobby” W. Young, 62, of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on August 7th, 2015 at the IU Health Paoli Hospital in Paoli, Indiana

He was born on November 23rd, 1952 to the late Robert B. Young and Gladys Ruth (Cox) Young-Hall.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

Bobby graduated from the Springs Valley High School Class of 1971. After high school Bobby joined the United States Army and was stationed in Panama during the Vietnam War. He later attended Vincennes University where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Business Management.

His hobbies included art, photography, model assembly and reading.

He was employed by the Pluto Corporation and had most recently worked at the French Lick Resort and Casino as a bar back.

Lincoln Alexander Arnold, age 77, of West Baden Springs, Indiana passed away on January 15th, 2014 at Paoli Health and Living in Paoli, Indiana.

He was born on January 18th, 1936 in Belize City, Belize to Aron Arnold and Ilen “Peyfritte” Arnold.

He married Clara Tura and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Lincoln attended the Red Quarry Christian Church in French Lick, Indiana.

He was an auto mechanic by trade.

Githa Ellen (Nelson) Beaty, age 79, of Bloomington, Indiana (formerly of French Lick) entered into eternal rest on August 5th, 2015 at Garden Villa in Bedford, Indiana.

She was born on January 4th, 1936 in Orange County, Indiana to Harry and Dollie (Wininger) Nelson.

Githa married Junior Beaty on October 13th, 1951 and he preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, (4) Brothers – Clifford, Elvis, Junior and Melvin Nelson and (1) Sister in infancy – Ruby Nelson.

Githa had worked at RCA as a factory worker and also cleaned houses. She was also a member of the Ellettsville Senior Citizens.

Samuel “Sam” H. Cox, 86, of Avon, formerly of French Lick entered into eternal rest on October 29th, 2015 at IU Health West Hospital in Avon, Indiana.

He was born in French Lick, Indiana on June 12th, 1929 to Samuel Frederick and Hazel (Cox) Cox.

Sam married Mary Smith on May 22nd, 1952 and she survives.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, (2) Sisters – Margaret Hobson and Fanny Cox and (1) Brother – Frederick Cox.

Sam graduated from French Lick High School. He was a member of the Bridgeport Masonic Lodge F&AM 162, the Moose Lodge and the IUOE Local 103. Sam will be remembered by his family and friends for his love of the outdoors, his sweet tooth, and his sweet smile. He will be greatly missed.

Merl Emmons, age 94, of Shoals, Indiana passed away October 1st, 2012 at his residence.

He was born on September 21st, 1918 in Martin County, Indiana to William Emmons and Minnie “Campbell“ Emmons.

He married Roberta Archer on April 30th, 1942, and she precedes him in death.

He was a farmer and a member of the Farm Bureau Co-op association.

Merl was a hardworking farmer as well as a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed mushrooms, squirrels, corn on the cob, and those little children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Roberta on May 17th, 2001, and his (11) brothers and sisters. Merl was the last member of the William Emmons children.

He is survived by:

Audrey (Maas) Finney of Lansing, Illinois entered into eternal rest Sunday November 29, 2015 at Springs Valley Meadows in  French Lick, Indiana.

She was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 22, 1928 to Douglas and Irene (McGuire) Maas.
Following graduation from Hirsch High School in Chicago, Audrey obtained her B. A. Degree from Culver Stockton College in Canton, Missouri. While there she was active in the Sigma Kappa Sorority and was the editor of the college newspaper.

She married Laurence William (Bill) Finney on June 20, 1950.

Audrey was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Lansing, Illinois.  Audrey’s great love of music was reflected in her many years of service with the church choir.  She had a beautiful soprano voice and her involvement with the choir brought her much joy.

Audrey was also involved in the Lansing Jr. Women’s club.  Her love of music and the performing arts was reflected in the many play productions the club presented for the children of the community.
Perhaps Audrey’s greatest contribution to the Lansing community was her many years of teaching at Memorial Jr. High School.  During her tenure at Memorial she dedicated herself to raising the bar of education for her students.  She was especially proud of introducing her students each year to Charles Dickens “A Christmas Carol” and her work with the school newspaper “The Flash.”  Following retirement Audrey was very involved with the Illinois Retired Teacher Association.

She is survived by (2) sons, Rev. Douglas S. Finney (Margaret) of French Lick IN, Scott Laurence Finney (Jean) of Sleepy Hollow IL.

James K. Groff, age 81, of French Lick, Indiana passed away August 3rd, 2014, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper, Indiana.

He was born on June 26th, 1933 in Orange County, Indiana to Frank and Odessia “Curles” Groff.

He married Madeleine Durbin on February 5th, 1978 and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, (1) Brother and (1) Sister.

James attended the Faith Tabernacle in Salem, Indiana. He retired from the Town of French Lick after working there on the Street Department for many years.

She was a homemaker, a CNA and a Physical Therapist. She was a member of the Springs Valley Christian Church in French Lick, Indiana and a member of the West Baden American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.

John Lee Howerton (retired) SMSgt age 53, of Lynn Haven, Florida, formerly of French Lick, Indiana, passed away at his sister’s residence in Jasper, Indiana on February 28th, 2015.

He was born on November 29th, 1961 in Nashville, Tennessee to Orin Hugh Howerton and Rebecca June (Roberts) Howerton.

His parents preceded him in death.

John married Althea K. Bound on September 24th, 1994 and she survives.

He graduated from Springs Valley High School Class of 1979.

John entered the United States Air Force on September 8th, 1982 and retired in 2010. While in the United States Air Force he served many overseas deployments. During these deployments he was awarded the Purple Heart as well as numerous other commendations and medals.

Dana (Dixon) Johnson, age 72, of French Lick, Indiana passed away November 30th, 2014 at her residence.

She was born on July 28th, 1942 to John and Helen (Noble) Dixon.

Melchior G. (Mac) Kalb, 92 of Shoals, Indiana passed away on Thursday, April 2nd, 2015 at his Lost River Township home. He was born on February 26, 1923 in Martin County, Indiana to the late Conrad and Isabel (Simmons) Kalb.

He was preceded in death by (2) Brothers - Roger Keith and Marvin Kalb, (2) Sisters - Elaine Stetler and Iris (Eugene) Brown.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, serving on the USS Cowanesque.

He was a lifelong farmer, former Lost River trustee, and served as President of the Shoals School Board.  He was also a former Grange and American Legion member. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and mushroom hunting.

He is survived by

Alma Aleene Lagenour, age 91, of French Lick, Indiana passed away on June 27th, 2015 at her residence.

Alma was born on June 15th, 1924 in Martin County, Indiana to Arthur and Minnie Etta (Smith) Evans.

She married Raymond Lagenour on December 17th, 1942 and he preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her parents,(1) Son in infancy – Alton Ray Lagenour, (1) Daughter – Beverley Nigg, (1) Great-Granddaughter – Jada Lagenour, (5) Brothers – Sam, Paul, Paris, Arthur Jr. and Wayne Evans and (3) Sisters – Blanche Freed, Burnetta Holt and Kathleen Hawkins.

Bonnie Lindsey, age 73, of French Lick, passed away on Thursday, November 7th, 2013 at Medco Health and Rehabilitation in French Lick, Indiana.  

Bonnie was born on February 18th, 1940 in Louisville, Kentucky to Frank A. Stitch and Rachel “Woodson” Stitch.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Bonnie married Hilbert “Hib” Lindsey on March 17th, 1956 and he survives.

Bonnie graduated from Springs Valley High School with the Class of 1965, raised her two children and later graduated from Oakland City College. She taught 1st Grade at Springs Valley Elementary School for several years and was known by her students as “Miss Bonnie”. Over her life she was a member of Tri-Kappa, PEO, the founder of a local ladies book club, member of Jasper Bridge Club and a local Euchre Club.

After her retirement, she and Hib went to Florida every winter to enjoy the sun, beach and in the evening they celebrated the setting of the sun. She had a lifelong interest in improving opportunities of the local youth through education.

David L. McCarty , age  66, of French Lick, Indiana passed away November 6, 2013, 2013 at I. U. Health, Paoli, Indiana.

He was born on January 7, 1947   in  Orange County to Warren Lewis McCarty and Jean Majors McCarty.

Danny Joe Merritt, age 72, of French Lick, Indiana entered in eternal rest on September 12th, 2015 at IU Health Paoli Hospital in Paoli, Indiana.
                                    
He was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on September 18th, 1942 to Joe and Annamae (Flora) Merritt.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, (1) Brother – Joe Merritt Jr. and (1) Sister – Sandra Jean Merritt.

Danny graduated from Gerstmeyer High School in Terre Haute, Indiana with the Class of 1960. After high school he joined the United States Navy and served aboard the ship USS Kaskaskia. He served his country during the Bay of Pigs and also during the Cuban Missile Crisis. At the age of 21, Danny went to work for Chrysler Motors as a Cutter/Grinder in their Indiana plants and was a loyal employee for 30 years, retiring from the Kokomo, Indiana plant. He was a member of the UAW Local 685 out of Kokomo, Indiana. He attended Arsenal Technical Evening School where he received training and certification for plumbing, pipefitting, blue print and drawing, refrigeration, air conditioning, hydraulics and welding.

Danny loved his family and his country. He was a lifetime member of the Paoli VFW Post 8302 and of the French Lick American Legion Post 76. He dedicated the last 10 years of his life to honoring his fellow veterans on the American Legion Honor Guard Firing Squad.

He attended the Beechwood Christian Church in French Lick, Indiana. Danny was a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved fishing, hunting, playing poker, gardening, canning, Nascar and spending time with his family. Danny and Sharon would have celebrated the 50th  Anniversary in January of 2016.

Phillip W. Necaise, age 63, of Dubois, Indiana passed away June 20, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

He was born on February 15, 1950 to Jack Judson Necaise and Betty Nicholson Quinn, in French Lick, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by son, Phillip W. Necaise, wife, Gerri Necaise, and father Jack J. Necaise.

Phillip was a member of the Sons of French Lick American Legion Walter Benson Post 76 French Lick, Indiana.

He was retired as dispatcher for a trucking company in Texas.

She married Henry J. Nigg on May 12th, 1951 and he preceded her in death on October 25th, 2000.

Geneva was also preceded in death by her parents and (16) brothers and sisters.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Springs Catholic Church in French Lick, Indiana. She was a homemaker.

Mike Owen, 72, of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on January 18th, 2016 at his residence.

He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 20th, 1943 to Harold and Jessie (Wilson) Owen.

Mike married his first wife Carol Stackhouse on April 5th, 1964 and she preceded him in death on April 17th, 2010. He married Becky Easterday on December 12th, 2012 and she survives.

He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Mike graduated from the Springs Valley High School with the Class of 1961. He retired from Paoli Furniture where he was an over-the-road truck driver for 30 + years. He was a Past Master of the French Lick Masonic Lodge F&AM #586, a member of the French Lick American Legion Post #76 and a devoted member of the Republican Party. He also loved farming, gardening and watching his plants grow.

Mike served his country in the United States Air Force from 1961 until 1965. He also served in the National Guard.

Kim married Loyd Peabody Jr. on October 11th, 1985 and he survives.

Kim was preceded in death by her parents – Donald Deweese on April 14th, 2010 and Betty Marie Deweese on April 11th, 1990.

She graduated from Mitchell High School with the Class of 1975 and afterwards attended Vincennes University for Computer Programming. She had previously been employed at the Wal-Mart in Paoli for 11 years.

Betty was born on August 4th, 1926 in Dubois County, Indiana to Jasper and Sophia Ellen (Walls) Nicholson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Husbands – Jack Necaise and Claude R. Quinn, (1) Son – Phillip W. Necaise, (1) Sister – Judy Waggoner, (1) Brother – Floyd “Jake” Nicholson, (1) Grandchild – Phillip Necaise and (1) Son-in-law – Alvin Allen.

Betty was a member of the Nicholson Valley Church.

She retired from Crane NSWC after 28 years of service. She was the owner of the Ceramic Gift Shop in West Baden Springs. She attended the Northwood Institute and attained 2 Associates Degrees.

Betty had a love for gardening, traveling, reading, music, social gatherings, her large extended family and feeding wildlife.

She was married to Richard C. Rea on April 28th, 1951 and he preceded her in death.

She retired from Irvington Radiology in Indianapolis, Indiana after 15 years where she worked as a billing supervisor.

Jaqueline was a member of the Tarum Ladies of the Tarum Shrine Club in Richmond, Indiana and the Crosley Office Girls (COGS) of Richmond, Indiana. She graduated from Cuzco High School with the Class of 1944 and received awards for shorthand and bookkeeping.

Norman served in the United States Air Force including the Vietnam War.  He retired after 20 years of service.  He was a member of the Southport Masonic Lodge #270 F&AM, Indianapolis, Indiana.  He also retired from the Union Carbide Co., Indianapolis, Indiana as a Cryogenics Specialist.

Fern (Hall) Terwillegar, age 86, of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on April 9th, 2015 at Medco Health and Rehabilitation.

She was born on May 23rd, 1928 in Orange County, Indiana to Richard and Lettie (Apple) Hall.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents, (3) Sisters – Edith, Marie and Maxine; (1) Nephew – Rex D. Conrad and (1) Niece – Judy Kendall.

She graduated From Paoli High School with the Class of 1945.

Fern was a member of Phi Beta Psi Sorority, Orange County Women’s Church Group, Friends of the Melton Public Library, P.E.O., West Baden Historical Society and the Beechwood Christian Church.

She served as Orange County Treasurer for 8 years and retired from the State of Indiana Motor Vehicles.

Fern was active in many organizations, her church and loved to travel. She had close family ties with her nieces, nephews and their families. She adored Lucy, Susie’s Golden Retriever, who was a frequent visitor with Fern.

She is survived by:

Lynn G. Thacker, age, 76, of Jasper, Indiana passed away on December 9, 2013 at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center, Jasper, Indiana.

He was born on September 24, 1937 to Elza Thacker and Mary “Mills” Thacker in Orange Co. Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Lynn graduated from French Lick High School with the class of 1954 and was a graduate of Indiana University school of Radiology.

Lynn was affiliated with Christian Church of Jasper.

He retired from Gary Methodist Hospital, Gary, Indiana.

He served in the National Guard.

He is survived by several cousins.

Joann married her love of over 60 years, Orville Kenneth Underhill on August 28th, 1950 and he survives.

She was born on December 4, 1978 in Salem, Indiana to Bobby D. Wininger and Rhonda “Brim” Wininger.

She was preceded in death by 2 sisters - Betty J. Wininger and Misty Dawn Brim and grandmother – Betty Brim.

Ruth Alice Roach Worak, age 90, formerly of French Lick, Indiana passed away on November 27, 2013 at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  

Ruth was born on August 3, 1923 in French Lick, Indiana to Elmer S. Roach and Lora Kendall Roach.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Worak , parents,  brothers Orville, John, Austin, Roy and
Junior Roach, sisters Ruby, Dorothy, Mary and Esther.

She was a retired beautician.

William “Kevin” York, 59, of Indianapolis, Indiana formerly of French Lick, entered into eternal rest on August 23rd, 2015 at the IU Health Paoli Hospital in Paoli, Indiana.

He was born on October 9th, 1955 in Seymour, Indiana to Bill and Dolores (Vaughn) York.

Kevin married Lee-Ann Davidson on March 25th, 1989 and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Kevin graduated from the Springs Valley High School with the Class of 1973 and from Oakland City College in 1977. He loved antique cars and car shows, boating, music, reading murder mysteries, watching movies and spending time with his family. Kevin also enjoyed his Toyota FJ40 Land Cruisers and his mom’s home cooking (especially on holidays). He worked as a Gas Controller for Citizen’s Gas and Water in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Clara “Tura” Arnold, age 64, of French Lick, Indiana passed away March 2nd, 2014, at IU Health Paoli Hospital in Paoli, Indiana.

She was born on July 27th, 1949 in Cebu City, Philippines to Antonio Tura Sr. and Cornelia Tura.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband – Lincoln Arnold.

She attended the Red Quarry Christian Church and had previously worked as a Nursing Aid at Mercy Hospital in New York before moving to French Lick.

George A. Beaty, age 83, of French Lick, Indiana passed away August 21st, 2014, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper, Indiana.

He was born on March 17th, 1931 in Orange County, Indiana to Walter and  Anna Elouise “Taylor” Beaty.

He was preceded in death by his parents and (3) Brothers – Raymond, Nick and Perry Joe Beaty.

George was a member of the Red Quarry Christian Church. He retired from Crane NSWC as a painter. He served our country in the United States Marine Corps from 1950-1952 and in the United States Army from 1954-1956.

He is survived by:

Gerald Leroy Bishop, age 80, of French Lick, Indiana (formerly of Benton Harbor, Michigan) entered into eternal rest on August 11th, 2015 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

He was born on August 2nd, 1935 in Lansing, Michigan to Cecil and Helen Bishop.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and (8) Brothers and Sisters.

He started Pleasure Pools in 1959 in Benton Harbor, Michigan and continued to grow his business throughout the United States through the years.

He was born on December 4th, 1929 in Crystal, Indiana to Clarence and Emma Cave.

Harry married Lois Evelyn Ramsey on October 16th, 1954 and she survives.

Harry retired from the Chrysler Corporation.

Margaret “Maggie” Crews, 87, of  French Lick, Indiana passed away February 24, 2013 at The Timbers
Nursing Home in Jasper, Indiana.

She was born on March 3, 1925 in French Lick, Indiana to Harry L. Burton and Lucy M “Weaver”
Burton.

She married  Ermel “Dutch” Crews on January 21, 1946 who preceded her in death on December 18, 2000 .
She was also preceded in death by her parents 13  brothers and sisters.

She was a member of American Legion Ladies  Aux. Post 76  French Lick, In.,  Jasper VFW Ladies Aux  672 Jasper, Indiana, Cane Creek Christian Church and  French Lick-West Baden Lions Club.

She was a homemaker.

Adriana Carmen DeLeon, age 52, of French Lick, formerly of Fredericksburg, Virginia, passed away July 27th, 2012 at her residence in French Lick, Indiana.

She was born on March 12th, 1960 to Jose Santos DeLeon and Helen Virginia "Espina" DeLeon.

While residing in Indiana, Adriana worked at the French Lick Resort and at Crane NSWC. Before moving to Indiana, she worked in Maryland at the Naval Air System Command.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Wanda R. (Land) Elkins, age 74, of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on January 17th, 2016 at her residence.

She was born in French Lick, Indiana on June 6th, 1941 to Roy Arthur and Lillie Mae (Howard) Land.

Wanda married Gene Edward Elkins on February 10th, 1962 and he preceded her in death on March 6th, 2003.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, (1) Brother – Donald Land and (5) Sisters – Francis Land, Rosemary Powell, Betty Watts, Vera Crowder and Shirley Jones.

Wanda was a very enthusiastic life-long member of the Red Quarry Christian Church where she was active with the youth ministry, Vacation Bible School, and the LBOL Ladies Club. She also loved singing the hymns and attending Wednesday evening Bible Study.

She retired from Springs Valley Bank and Trust in 2004 after 25 years of service, and she had previously worked at the French Lick Sheraton Hotel.

Robert M. “Hootie” Flick, age 84, of French Lick, Indiana passed away on December 27th, 2013 at Memorial Hospital in Jasper, Indiana.

He was born on March 10th, 1929 in Dubois County, Indiana to Lemuel Milton Flick and Maude “Jacobs” Flick.

He married Virginia Collins and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents,(1) Brother – Leo Flick, (1) Sister – Wilma Crowder and (1) Daughter – Jennifer Lynn Flick.

Hootie was a member of the Springs Valley Christian Church, the French Lick American Legion Post #76 and attended the Hillham Methodist Chruch in Hillham, Indiana.

He retired from the ANR Pipeline where he worked at the Celestine, Indiana substation.

Freda Goodman, age 91, of Lebanon, TN passed away on January 11th, 2014.

She was born on December 4th, 1922 in Hillham, Indiana to Lemuel Milton and Maude “Jacobs” Flick.

She was preceded in death by her parents, (2) Brothers – Leo Flick and Robert “Hootie” Flick and (1) Sister – Wilma Crowder.

Freda was a member of the Hillham Methodist Church and an active, vibrant stay-at-home wife, mother and grandmother. She shared her quilting and cross stitch with family and friends and because of her thorough journaling, she was considered the “local historian” to settle any score.

She is survived by:

Virginia “Jenny” Harris, age 88, of French Lick, Indiana passed away November 18th, 2012 at Medco Health and Rehabilitation Center in French Lick, Indiana.

She was born on September 24th, 1924 in Gary, Indiana to Oliver and Audrie “Chastain” Hanger.

She married Dean Harris on December 23rd, 1943.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Eastern Star. She graduated from French Lick High School Class of 1941.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Carol J. Hendrix, age 87, passed away on August 1st, 2014 at Medco Health and Rehabilitation in French Lick, Indiana.

Carol was born on September 23rd, 1926 in French Lick, Indiana to Joe Bennett and Cordia “Bell” Bennett.

Carol worked at the French Lick Springs Hotel in retail.

Dorothy H. Holt, age 69, of Jeffersonville, Indiana (formerly of Paoli) passed away on June 9th, 2015 at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany, Indiana.

Dorothy was born on February 7th, 1946 in Martin County, Indiana to Clifford Lee Holt and Frances (Gentry) Holt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, (3) Brother, (1) Sister and companion Raymond Ball.

Dorothy attended the New Hope Church in Paoli, Indiana.

Dennis “Jargo” Jones, age 67, of French Lick, Indiana passed away August 1, 2012  at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington, Indiana.

He was born on January 2nd, 1945 in French Lick, Indiana to Joel G. Jones and Hattie Edna (Harris) Jones.

Jargo was a CPA and the French Lick Clerk-Treasurer.

He graduated from Springs Valley High School with the Class of 1963 and also graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Political Science and as a Certified Public Accountant.

After college, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam Era.

Jargo was a member of the French Lick American Legion Post 76.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Harold “Buck” Jones, 78, of Paoli entered into eternal rest on September 21st, 2015 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington, Indiana.

He was born in French Lick, Indiana on January 19th, 1937 to James Lucas and Ora (Phillips) Jones.

Buck married Wilma Jane Jones on October 3rd, 1955 and she preceded him in death on July 20th, 2010. He then married Carolyn Kerby Carmichael on November 2nd, 2013 and she survives.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Wife – Wilma Jane Jones, (2) Brothers – Larry “Dizzy” Jones and (1) Brother in infancy, (2) Sisters –Bonnie Haefling and Margie Anderson and (1) Granddaughter – Donna Jade Jones.

Buck enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 17. He served his country from 1954-1968 during the Vietnam War with the 305th Strategic Squadron. He was promoted to the rank of Technical Sergeant (TSgt) before being discharged due to a medical issue.

After leaving being discharged honorably he furthered his academics by attending Northwood Institute in West Baden Springs, Indiana where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business management in only 3 years, a degree that normally took 4 years to receive. He then started working at the Indiana Handle factory in Paoli, Indiana as a Plant Manager where he was a faithful employee for 27 years. During his years at the Indiana Handle Factory, an accomplishment that Buck was very proud of is that he was able to help save the 1996 Olympics by making sure the wood products needed for the Olympic Torch were produced and sent to their required destination on time.

Harold attended the Syria Christian Church in Paoli, Indiana, was a member of the French Lick American Legion Post 76, Paoli VFW Post 8302 and had previously served as a Reserve Deputy for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department for 17 years. He was an avid proponent of the NRA.

He graduated from French Lick High School Class of 1957.

He retired from Crane NSWC where he was a supervisor in the small arms division.

Chester "Mackie" Arthur McDonald III, age 45, of Pinckney, Michigan formerly of French Lick, Indiana passed away on August 30th, 2014.

He was born on January 26th, 1969 in Germany to Chester and Mary (Allstott) McDonald.

He graduated with the Springs Valley High School Class of 1987.

Chester served in the United States Army and National Guard for six years. He also worked as an account manager in the Automotive & Publishing in Indiana for several years.

Chester was a true fisherman to the core. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him and loved him.

Alferd Warren Moore, age 84, of Salem formerly of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on October 9th, 2015 at Salem Crossing in Salem, Indiana.

He was born on June 17th, 1931 in Crawford County, Indiana to Edgar and Bertha (Stinehall) Moore.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his 1st Wife – Dereatha.

Alferd graduated from the Leavenworth High School with the Class of 1952, was a member of the Pentecostal Church of Zion and the American Legion Post 149 in West Baden Springs, Indiana. His favorite pastime was watching and feeding the many birds of southern Indiana.  

He had previously worked in road construction and also at Kimball as a cabinet maker.

Marjorie Ann Shields, 89 of Indianapolis passed away November 20, 2012 at Rosewalk at Lutherwoods.

She was born October 31, 1923 in Indianapolis, the daughter of Rose Marie (Stich) and Ernest Clyde Campbell.

She attended Pleasant Run and Township House Elementary Schools, Warren Central Junior High and graduated from Warren Central High School.  She was a school secretary at Springs Valley Elementary Schools, French Lick, In. Warren Central high Schools, and retired from Lowell Elementary of Warren Township.   She was a member of Franklin Road Baptist Church, Indianapolis, In.

Marjorie married Alden Keith Shields on February 7, 1942 in Indianapolis.

She was preceded in death by Alden, her parents, her brother Carl Edward Campbell, sons-in-law Stuart  Wetterholt , Arlis Stanfield and daughter-in-law Vicki-Hunter Shields.

Her activities continued when moving back to Indy. She was a member of a homemakers club, bowling team and the Swinging Singles Square Dance Club.

The last few years she appreciated the friendliness and helpfulness of her caregivers and fellow residents.

A celebration of life will begin at 1:00 P.M.on Saturday January 12, 2013 with family and friends visiting one hour before in the chapel of Brosmer-Kemple Funeral Home, 9640 W. State Road 56, French Lick, Indiana .

William Lowell “Bill” Breeden, 75, of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on March 11th, 2016 at his residence in French Lick, Indiana.

He was born on February 22nd, 1941 in French Lick, Indiana to Charles Louis Breeden and Pauline Haldin (Lashbrooks) Breeden.

Bill married the love of his life, Donna Jean Toczek on September 3rd, 1966 and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, (1) Son and (1) Brother.

Bill graduated from Osgood High School in Osgood, Indiana. He then attended and graduated from Vincennes University and also Indiana State University. He owned and operated Bill’s Auto Sales for the past 24 years.

He loved the water and spending time on Dale Hollow Lake.

Everett “Red” Goodman Jr, age 88, of Lebanon, TN passed away on April 5th, 2014.

He was born on September 9th, 1925 in French Lick, Indiana to Everett and Mamie “Nelson” Goodman.

He was preceded in death by his wife Freda, parents and (1) Brother – Bill Goodman.

Red was a member of the United Methodist Church and a retired manager of Texas Eastern Gas Company. He served in WWII as a 2nd Class Aviation Radioman for the US Navy and was a member of the American Legion for 68 years. Golfing the summers away at their home in Lebanon, TN followed by fishing during the winter months in Lake Wales, FL, Red was a great mentor and teacher to his three loving grandchildren.

Dean Harris, age 92, of French Lick, Indiana passed away November 19th, 2012 at Medco Health and Rehabilitation Center in French Lick, Indiana.

He was born on October 23rd, 1920 in Orange County, Indiana to Charles and Bessie “Hayes” Harris.

He married Virginia Hanger on December 23rd, 1943.

He graduated from French Lick High School Class of 1940.

He retired from Texas Eastern after 35 years. He was a Navy Veteran WWII, was a member of the French Lick American Legion Post 76 and a member of the French Lick – West Baden Lions Club.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife – Virginia, (1) sister and (4) brothers.

Alvin “Dick” Jones, age 74, of French Lick, Indiana passed away on December 27th, 2014 at Medco Health and Rehabilitation in French Lick, Indiana.

He was born on March 20th, 1940 in Martin County, Indiana to Roscoe Jones and Gail (Moore) Jones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, (2) Brother s – Darrell and Larry, and (1) Sister – Alma Carolyn Gibbs.

Dick was an over the road truck driver and served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Era.

He was a member of the Travelers’ Chapel in Malvern, Arkansas.

She had worked as a telephone operator for AT&T and also was a housewife.

Alta Marie was involved in the 7th Day Adventist faith.

Cleo Elizabeth “Thornton” Lang, age 81, of French Lick, Indiana passed away May 16th, 2014, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana.

She was born on May 14th, 1933 in Raiford, Florida to Lindsey Leo and Essie Jane Thornton.

Cleo married Howard Mack Lang on May 30th, 1951 in Kathleen, Florida and he survives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and (1) Sister – Ruby Jewel “Thornton” Sikes.

She graduated from Archer High School Class of 1951 in Archer, Florida.

Cleo was a member of the Crystal Community Church in Crystal, Indiana.

She was a homemaker.

Barbara (Lynch) Nicholson, age 82, of French Lick, Indiana entered in eternal rest on August 23rd, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Barbara was born in Orange County, Indiana on October 28th, 1932 Amos Lynch Sr. and Zora (Daugherty) Lynch.

She married Norman Nicholson in March of 1953 and he survives.

Keith Wortinger, age 64, of Dubois, Indiana passed away August 3rd, 2012  at his residence in Dubois, Indiana.

He was born on December 2nd, 1947 in Orange County, Indiana to Arthur Wortinger and Edna “Condra“ Wortinger.

He married Joanne Matheson on August 24th, 1968 and she survives.

He graduated from Springs Valley High School with the Class of 1965. After High School he attended and graduated  Union College on a basketball scholarship in Barbourville, Kentucky. He then obtained his Masters Degree from Western Michigan University.

He started his career teaching math at Central Middle School in South Haven Michigan, then became Assistant Principal at Tippecanoe Valley High School in Mentone, Indiana. He then moved to Dubois, Indiana and became the Principal of Dubois Middle School.

Keith was also a member of the National Principal’s Association and served on The Indiana Governor’s Task Force of Education.

He enjoyed playing golf, basketball, tennis, and coin collecting.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Charles E. Bennett Jr., 89, French Lick entered into eternal rest on September 1st, 2015 at Springs Valley Meadows in French Lick, Indiana.

He was born in French Lick, Indiana on November 20th, 1925 to Charles Elbert “Ebb” Bennett Sr. and Grace (Cassidy) Bennett.

Charlie married the love of his life, Rosemary Qualkenbush on November 20th, 1950 in a family service at the home of her parents, Ellis and Beulah Qualkenbush.

He was preceded in death by parents, (2) Brothers – Leo and Zeno Bennett and (1) Sister – Frances Bruce.

Charlie graduated from the French Lick High School in 1943. Following high school, he joined the United States Army and served his country until January 8th, 1945, when he was wounded in Belgium. He was honorably awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal, European Theater of Operations Ribbon with 3 Stars and the WWII Victory Medal.

At the age of 21, Charlie began his career at the French Lick Springs Hotel as a manager trainee. When the Sheraton Hotel chain purchased the local resort, he was appointed resident manager of the resort convention center hotel in May of 1957. He left the local resort to accept the honor of assisting, establishing and building the Jasper Holiday Inn.

He and his wife moved to Bloomington in 1962 where he served as in-house resident manager of the Biddle Continuation Center at Indiana University. In June of 1977, he was appointed as associate director of the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU). He was awarded as a Union Board Honorary Life Member. He also became a member of the Indiana Hotel and Motel Association and served as Vice President in 1986.

Charlie was a member of the French Lick American Legion Post 76, French Lick Masonic Lodge #586 F&AM and the Beechwood Christian Church. He was bestowed the honor of being a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Associations of College Unions International.

He is survived by:

Several Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends also survive Charlie.

He was born in West Baden Springs, Indiana on February 18th, 1929 to Heber and Omah (Brown) Bird.

Donald married N. Jean Royer in 1951 and she survives.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, (2) Brothers – Bill and Heber Bird Jr. and (1) Sister – Edith Pierce.

Donald graduated from the West Baden Springs High School with the Class of 1947. He retired from the Pluto Corporation where he worked in maintenance. He was a member of the Springs Valley Wesleyan Church and the American Legion Post 149 Phillips-Grigsby in West Baden Springs, Indiana.

Donald served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Jackie Lee Chaplin, age 71, of French Lick, Indiana passed away November 18th, 2012 at IU Health Paoli Campus in Paoli, Indiana.

He was born on December 17th, 1940 in Plymouth, Indiana to Merle and Ruby “Dalton” Chaplin.

He married Shirley Joann Nelson and she survives.

He was a masseuse at the French Lick Springs Resort for 40 years and was a member of the Wesley Chapel Church in Orangeville, Indiana.

Barry Melvin Cole Sr., age 69, of West Baden Springs, Indiana entered into eternal rest on March 10th, 2016 at Springs Valley Meadows in French Lick, Indiana.

He was born on September 1st, 1946 in Connellsville, Pennsylvania to Kenneth Melvin Cole Sr. and Dorothy (Shaffer) Cole.

Barry married the love of his life, Edwana Bowen, on March 17th, 1967 and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Barry graduated from George Washington High School in Indianapolis, Indiana with the Class of 1965. After high school he joined the United States Army where he served his country proudly for a total of 13 years. While in the U.S. Army, Barry was stationed throughout the world and also fought in the Vietnam War.

He loved spending time outdoors whether it be fishing, hunting or just being outside.

Barry supported his family and made a living being an over-the-road truck driver.

Jacqueline “Biron” Diffendarfer, age 74, loving wife of Rex A. Diffendarfer of French Lick, Indiana passed away on March 31st, 2014 at her residence in French Lick, Indiana after a long courageous battle with cancer.  

Jackie was born on May 2nd, 1939 in Mishawaka, Indiana to the late William J. and Vivian R. “Carothers” Biron.

She married Rex Diffendarfer on March 2nd, 1982 and he survives.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Jackie loved to cook and bake and was known for her famous desserts. She will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her.

Linda K. Doan, age 64, of Paoli, Indiana entered in eternal rest on September 28th, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

She was born in French Lick, Indiana on July 18th, 1951 to Ellis Eugene Campbell and Josephine (Hooten) Fair.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents and (1) Sister – Shirley Marie Fair.

She enjoyed Line Dancing at the Senior Citizens Center in Paoli and French Lick, was formerly a member of the “Tie Rods” Car Club in Paoli, and had volunteered at the food bank.

She was a member of the Syria Christian Church, graduated from the Springs Valley High School with the Class of 1969 and attended Vincennes University Jasper Campus for Medical Billing Coding. She had most recently worked at the French Lick Resort Casino as a Cage Cashier. Prior to that she had worked at Cook Inc. in Bloomington, Indiana in assembly and at Kimball Electronics, also in assembly.

Jill Ann (Edwards) Harrison, age 55, of Hillham, Indiana passed away on July 17th, 2015.

Jill was born in Jasper, Indiana on February 29th, 1960 to Henry B. “Tommy” and Alice (Harrison) Edwards.

She married Timothy Scott Harrison on May 19th, 1979 and he preceded her in death on April 11th, 2014.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and (1) Infant Daughter – Sarah Elizabeth Harrison.

Jill graduated with the Springs Valley High School Class of 1978, was a member of the 1977 Blackhawk Brigade Class D State Champions and also the Springs Valley United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing Bunko, reading and watching all her nieces and nephews at their various sporting events.

Timothy S. Harrison, age 54, of Hillham, Indiana passed away April 11th, 2014, at his residence in Hillham, Indiana.

He was born on August 19th, 1959 in Bedford, Indiana to John Henry and Phyllis “Horton” Harrison and they both survive.

He married Jill Edwards on May 19th, 1979 and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and (1) Infant Daughter – Sarah Elizabeth Harrison.

Tim attended the Hillham Church and graduated from Northeast Dubois High School in 1977.

He was an Owner/Operator truck driver and had been leased with the same company, Ace Doran Hauling and Rigging, for 30 plus years.

Virlee Rose (Haefling) Jones, age 83, of Jasper, Indiana (formerly of French Lick) passed away on June 26th, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society-Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper, Indiana.

Virlee was born on December 2nd, 1931 in Orange County, Indiana to Henry and Louise (Guntil) Haefling.

She married William Jones and he preceded her in death on February 29th, 2008.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, (1) Twin-Sister - Virginia Kellams and (1) Sister - Shirley Foxx and a dear and special niece Patty Pielemeier.

Virlee was a member of Our Lady of the Springs Catholic Church in French Lick.

She retired from Kimball International after 35 years.

Mary M. King, age 84, of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on November 11th, 2015 at Memorial Hospital in Jasper, Indiana.

She was born in Dubois County, Indiana on December 21st, 1930 to Robert and Sophie (Treadway) Nicholson.

She married Kenneth King in 1948 and he preceded her in death in 2001.

Mary was also preceded in death by her parents, (1) Brother – Leroy Nicholson and (1) Grandson in infancy – Ricky Lee King Jr.

She was a member of the Our Lady of the Spring Catholic Church. Mary enjoyed playing bingo and dancing at the Senior Citizens as well as spending time with friends and family. She also loved listening and dancing to music.

When Kenneth was alive, they made many trips to the Washington Moose Lodge and to the Knights of Columbus in Jasper, Indiana.

Jack E. Leonard, 79, of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on January 30th, 2016 at Springs Valley Meadows in French Lick, Indiana.

He was born on February 4th, 1936 in French Lick, Indiana to Paul Leonard and Grace (Briner) Kellams.

Jack married Joan Nicholson, the love of his life, on September 28th, 1957 and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jack graduated from the French Lick High School with the Class of 1954, attended the Hillham Church of Christ in Christian Union in Hillham, Indiana and retired from U.S. Gypsum where he was a General Maintenance Foreman on June 30th, 1996 after 42 years of dedication. His favorite pastimes included golfing with friends and family, playing tennis, hunting and reading the Bible.

James David Meehan, age 80, of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on September 21st, 2015 at his residence.

He was born on February 1st, 1935 in Orange County, Indiana to John Edward and Myrle Rose (Dickins) Meehan.

David married Patricia Joan Parsons on September 14th, 1956 and she preceded him in death on October 18th, 2012.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, (1) Son – James Eric Meehan, (3) Brothers – Carl William, John Edward Jr., and Thomas Meehan, (3) Sisters – Lorene Hillis, Leona Brewer and Pauline White.

David was a member of the French Lick American Legion Post 76. He had previously worked at US Gypsum in Shoals for 35 years where he supervised and trained many longtime employees in the wallboard department. After retirement he continued working with US Gypsum as a consultant opening other plants throughout the United States. He and his late son Eric shared their love of farming and timber land. In 2013 he was named Orange County Forest Steward of the Year.

David loved the game of golf and played every chance that he had with his friends. He also enjoyed working on family geneology, most of whom were from Ireland.  

He attended the Daugherty School in Hindostan, Indiana before attending high school in West Baden. He was elected Class President of the West Baden High School Class of 1954. Three years after high school, David joined the United States Army to serve his country.

Carl N. Pryor, age 70, of French Lick, Indiana, passed away at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 4th, 2014 at University Hospital of Louisville.

He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on November 1st, 1943 to Marguerite "Carr" Pryor and Carl L. Pryor.

He was married to Therese "McCullough" Pryor of Bloomington, Indiana on January 22nd, 1994 and preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Pryor.

He was a member of the National Muzzleloading Rifle Association, the Nature Conservancy, Ducks Unlimited, Quail Unlimited, and the Contemporary Longrifle Association. He held a B.S. degree in forestry from Purdue University and worked as a certified arborist and as a vegetation management specialist for DowElanco and DowAgrosciences for 28 years. Since 2000, he and his wife Therese have been the owner-operators of A Little Log Cabin in the Woods, A Big Log Cabin in the Clouds, and the Blue Prairie Bed and Breakfast Inn, a tourism business near French Lick. He is survived by his wife, Therese; two sons and their wives, Christopher and Kelly Pryor of Carmel, Indiana and Eric and Stacey Pryor of Fishers, Indiana; a sister Mrs. Janet Kassebaum of Carmel, Indiana; and five grandchildren, Ethan, Grant, Owen, William, and Marguerite.

Leon Roach, 85, of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on January 22nd, 2016 at Brookside Village in Jasper, Indiana.

He was born in Martin County, Indiana on April 11th, 1930 to Napoleon “Poe” and Mary (Qualkenbush) Roach.

Leon married Anita Baker on January 28th, 1950 and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, (5) Brothers – Ralph Wininger, Harold Roach, Howard Roach, Leo Roach and Dale Roach; (4) Sisters – Edith Westerlund, Velma Quinn, Violet Moore and Mabel Daughtery.

Leon graduated from Shoals High School with the Class of 1949, was a member of the Cane Creek Christian Church and was the Owner/Operator of Roach’s General Store in Hillham for over 33 years. He enjoyed farming and was also a school bus driver for 33 years.

Leon served his country in the United States Army as a Technical Sergeant with the 2nd Division during the Korean War.

Jannah Lynne (Carnes) Tofte, age 63, passed away September 21, 2015 surrounded by family. She was born November 21st, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Jesse and Alta (Seybold) Carnes. Jannah enjoyed square dancing. She also liked playing card games and board games with family and friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend to many. Jannah enjoyed her coffee often referring to “Coffee with the girls”. She also liked to sing karaoke and was known for having her own machine. Jannah cherished her friends and family and will be deeply missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents - Jesse and Alta Carnes; a daughter - Angela Freeman; her husband - Sivert “Tiny” Tofte; and a brother - Jesse Carnes, Jr.
Jannah is survived by three children - Michael Freeman (Jackie), Terry Freeman and Tina Turner (Ralph); 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 1st, 2015 at Brosmer-Kemple Funeral Home, French Lick, Indiana. Visitation will be before the service starting at 11:00 a.m.
Following the service, Jannah will be laid to rest with her parents in Mount Lebanon Cemetery in French Lick, Indiana.


Brenda E. Weaver, age 68, of French Lick, passed away on Saturday, October 19th, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, Indiana  

She was born on July 12th, 1945 in Westfield, Indiana to Delbert J. Gray and Rosella Fousnite Gray.
She married Charlie Weaver on July 8th, 1960 and he preceded her in death.

Brenda was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister - Barbara Krokidas.

She worked at the French Lick Springs Hotel, French Lick, Indiana

Leonard Alonzo “Bub” Wolfington, age 92, of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on July 31st, 2015 at his residence.

He was born on January 13th, 1923 in West Baden Springs, Indiana to John and Maude Mae (Kellams) Wolfington.

Bub married Elnora Belcher on May 29th, 1946 and she preceded him in death on June 20th, 2008.

Leonard was also preceded in death by his parents and (1) Brother – Richard Wolfington.

He was the owner of the Colonial Bar in French Lick, a member of the French Lick American Legion Post 76, the Springs Valley Wesleyan Church and the French Lick Masonic Lodge F&AM #586. He graduated from the West Baden Springs High School with the Class of 1941.

Leonard joined the United States Army in 1943 and served his county during WWII with the 207th Combat Engineer Battalion. He served in part at Omaha Beach, The Battle of the Bulge, The Crossing of the Rhine and at Remagen Bridge.

He was born on March 8th, 1932 in Orange County, Indiana to Frank and Floy Edith (Bell) Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wife – Betty Pearl Brown, (1) Son – Charles Hopper, (1) Brother – Carl E. Brown and (1) Sister – Janice Patton.

Pappy attended the Springs Valley Wesleyan Church, had been a member of the Springs Valley Exchange Club and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He served his country in the United States Air Force from April of 1951 until January of 1954. He retired from being the Street Commissioner for the Town of West Baden Springs.

Stacy D. Combs, 46, of Paoli, Indiana entered into eternal rest on February 8th, 2016 at Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center in Crystal River, Florida.

She was born on April 3rd, 1969 in Salem, Indiana to Lonnie “Gordy” Kellams and LaDonna (McGill) Kellams.

Stacy married Bill Combs on November 14th, 1994 and he survives.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Stacy was employed at Wal-Mart in Paoli as a supervisor and part time at Pinky’s Court Street Pub in Paoli, Indiana. She was a member of the V.F.W. Post 8302 in Paoli and also the Orange County Moose Lodge 2530 also in Paoli.

She is survived by:

Allen Keith Conrad, 80, of Crystal, Indiana entered into eternal rest on November 18, 2015 at St. Charles Health Campus, Jasper, Indiana.

He was born in French Lick, Indiana on September 25, 1935 to Lemuel and Margaret (Elkins) Conrad.

He married Rena Lee Shepard on February 18, 1955 and she survives.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and (1) brother Warren Conrad.

Allen graduated from French Lick High School, was an Army Veteran and retired from Crane Naval Weapons Depot.

He was a member of the Christian Church of Jasper, Indiana.

Geneva “Jenny” (Lindsey) Dorsam, 84 years young, of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on March 27th, 2016 at Springs Valley Meadows in French Lick, Indiana.

She was born on March 30th, 1931 in Norton, Indiana to John Monroe and Sophia Adeline (Weaver) Lindsey.

Jenny married Amos Dorsam on November 10th, 1949 and he preceded her in death on August 8th, 2003.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and (3) Brothers – Hilbert “Hib”, Chester “Chig” and John Lindsey.

Jenny enjoyed going to church on Sunday and had most recently attended the Mount Lebanon United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed spending time with friends and family as much as possible.

She was a beautician, the owner and operator of the Sun Shack, owned numerous rental properties and helped her husband Amos with the farm work. Jenny graduated with the French Lick High School Class of 1949 and was a member of the French Lick – West Baden Museum, formerly the French Lick – West Baden Historical Society.

She is survived by:

She was born in Eidson, Tennessee on September 1st, 1934 to George W. and Sarah Elizabeth (Bowen) Horton.

Phyllis married John Henry Harrison on February 14th, 1954 and he survives.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, (1) Son – Timothy S. Harrison on April 11th, 2014, (1) Granddaughter – Sarah Elizabeth Harrison in infancy and several brother and sisters.

She was a member of the Hillham Church of Christ in Christian Union, graduated from the Hancock County High School in Tennessee with the Class of 1953 and was the co-owner/operator of John Henry’s Restaurant on College Street in French Lick for nearly 25 years.

Leslie Anne “Fields” Klunk, age 59, of French Lick, Indiana passed away May 6th, 2014, at her residence in French Lick, Indiana.

Russell M. Lewis, age 97, of French Lick, Indiana passed away August 18th, 2013 at Medco Health and Rehabilitation in French Lick, Indiana.

He was born on February 29th, 1916 in Indian Springs in Martin County, Indiana to James W. and Edith “Waggoner” Lewis.

He married Alta Mae Baker on June 26th, 1937 and she preceded him in death on August 1st, 2000.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wife and (1) Brother – Walter Grant Lewis.

Russell was a member of the French Lick Masonic Lodge F&AM #586 and the Ames Chapel United Methodist Church in Paoli, Indiana. He graduated from the Owensburg High School Class of 1935.

He was a farmer all his life.

Hilbert "Hib" Lindsey, age 78, of French Lick, Indiana passed away on December 11th, 2013 at his residence in French Lick, Indiana.


He was born on March 11th, 1935 in Norton in Dubois County, Indiana to John Monroe Lindsey and Sophia Adeline “Weaver” Lindsey.

He married Bonnie Stich on March 17th, 1956 and she preceded him in death on November 7th, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his parents, (2) Brothers – John and Chetser “Chig” Lindsey and Wife – Bonnie “Stich” Lindsey.

Hib was a graduate of the French Lick High School Class of 1953, a member of the French Lick/West Baden Lions Club, a member of the French Lick American Legion Post 76, on the Board of Directors for Springs Valley Bank and Trust, founder of Lindsey’s Construction and one of the founding members of the French Lick Chamber of Commerce. He also enjoyed golfing, flying airplanes, being on the water in his boat between rounds of golf and just having a good time in the company of close friends.

He was born on October 1st, 1966 in Anderson, Indiana to Forrest Herbert and Nondas Marie Montgomery.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dale was a Sons of American Legion member of the French Lick American Legion Post #76, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and was an avid hunter.

He graduated from the Springs Valley High School Class of 1985.

 Keith Reynolds Morgan, age 77, of French Lick, Indiana passed away November 22nd, 2012 at his residence.

He was born on August 17th, 1935 in French Lick, Indiana to Harold Stanley and Effie Alice “Reynolds” Morgan.
He married Marie Archer on June 3rd, 1956 and later married Helen “Frost” Creek Barker on April 18th, 1973.
He graduated from French Lick High School Class of 1953.
He was the owner of the West Baden Jenco Station and retired from the French Lick Springs Hotel.

Pauline Rominger, 86, of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on February 2nd, 2016 at IU Health Paoli Hospital in Paoli, Indiana.

She was born in Orange County, Indiana on September 30th, 1929 to Ernest and Lottie (Stackhouse) Hallaway.

Pauline married Harry W. “Junior” Rominger on March 6th, 1948 and he preceded her in death on May 4th, 2009.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, (2) Brothers – James Hallaway and Clifford Hallaway; and (3) Sisters – Ruth Dixon, Fern Burton and Marilyn Jones.

Pauline enjoyed flowers, gardening and antiques.

She had previously been employed at the Upholstery Shop, Allbright’s Grocery Store and Hoffman’s in Orleans. She also worked on the family farm and was a homemaker.

Paul Jack Spoonmore, age 89, of French Lick, Indiana passed away on April 10th, 2014 at Medco Health and Rehabilitation in French Lick, Indiana.

He was born on February 9th, 1925 to Roy and Roxie "Allen" Spoonmore.

Jack was married to Mary Alice “Slattie” Morris Spoonmore on September 20, 1952.   She preceded him in death on
July 25, 1992.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and (1) Brother – Donald Ray Spoonmore.

Jack graduated from West Baden High School Class of 1942. He served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne, both Active Duty and Reserve Duty, from 1949 until 1954. He then was employed by Indiana Natural Gas, now known as Vectren, and retired after 45 plus years of service.

He was a member of the Prospect Church of Christ in West Baden Springs, Indiana.

He is survived by:

Care givers - Janet Chapman, Ed Siminiski and Maxine Wininger.

Two nieces, four nephews and several cousins also survive.

Bernard "Bernie" Raymond Weidler, age 75, of Dubois, Indiana passed away February 26th, 2013 at his residence.

He was born on November 23rd, 1937 in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania to Robert and Edna “Smith” Weidler.

Marjorie May (Watson) Wells, 98 years young, of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on March 31st, 2016 at Springs Valley Meadows in French Lick, Indiana.

She was born in Owensboro, Kentucky on March 21st, 1918 to Everett O. Watson and Ada Ruth (Lehigh) Watson.

Marjorie married her love of almost 37 years, Carl Cave “Casey” Wells on June 27th, 1936 and he preceded her in death on March 14th, 1973.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, (1) Infant Son – Arthur Wells and (1) Sister – Anna Louise Watson.

She graduated with the French Lick High School Class of 1936 and attended many reunions over the years.

Marjorie was a life-long catholic and was a member of the Our Lady of the Springs Catholic Church in French Lick, Indiana. She was a member of the Our Lady of the Springs Women’s Club, served as a greeter and also helped serve many chili suppers over the years and was also a member of Tri-Kappa.  

Marjorie was employed at the French Lick Springs Hotel, later the French Lick Sheraton Hotel, as a Registration Desk Clerk. She was later employed for (30) thirty years by the Springs Valley National bank as a teller, both in the French Lick and West Baden Springs branches. She thoroughly enjoyed meeting and serving the public and received many accolades upon her retirement.

Ruth Ann Buchanan, age 90, of French Lick, Indiana entered in eternal rest on September 15th, 2015 at Springs Valley Meadows in French Lick, Indiana.
                                    
She was born in Martin County, Indiana on March 1st, 1925 to John W. and Ada B. (Mayo) Lewis.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, (2) Husbands – Joe Wininger and Grant Buchanan, (1) Brother – Harry Lewis and (3) Sisters – Clara Emmons, Ethel Moore and Fern Lewis.

Ruth attended the French Lick High School in French Lick, Indiana. She worked at both the Charlestown Powder Plant and also at the Indianapolis Powder Plant for Crane NSWC. She was a loyal member of the Hillham Church of Christ in Christian Union, the Eastern Star, enjoyed reading her Bible and spoiling her grandchildren.

Randy Alan Burton, age 59, of French Lick, Indiana passed away on September 2nd, 2014 at his residence.

He was born on November 1st, 1954 in Bedford, Indiana to Robert and Mary “Stackhouse” Burton.

He was preceded in death by his parents – Robert and Mary “Stackhouse” Burton.

Randy graduated with the Springs Valley High School Class of 1972 and was a retired employee of the Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane, Indiana. He served his country as a Veteran of the United States Air Force.

He was a member of the Beechwood Christian Church where he still holds the record for attendance of 10 years.

DeAnn Conrad, age 51, of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on May 26th, 2015 at her residence.

She was born on February 21st, 1964 in Bedford, Indiana to Don and Delores “Dody” (Ballard) Conrad.

DeAnn was preceded in death by her father.

She graduated from Springs Valley High School and worked in the retail business.

She is survived by:

Donald Leroy Cooper, age 85, of Shoals, Indiana entered into eternal rest on April 5th, 2015 after an extended illness.

He was born on March 25th, 1930 in Anderson, Indiana to Joseph and Hazel (Smith) Cooper.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, cherished wife of 66 years – Phyllis Joann (Palmer), (1) Daughter – Dixie Lynn, (1) Sister – Kathryn Scott, father and mother-in-law – Edward and Emma (Helmic) Clark, (2) Brothers and sisters-in-law, (1) Niece and (1) Nephew.

Mr. Cooper retired in 1986 from Delco-Remy Division of GM as a production supervisor with 37 ½ years of service.

He was a veteran of the United States Army and stationed in Germany serving as a Military Police Officer.

Donald spent his pastime enjoying landscaping, wood crafting and was an avid IU basketball fan.

He is survived by:

Margaret June Hendrix, age 91, of French Lick, Indiana passed away on March 20th, 2014 at Medco Health and Rehabilitation in French Lick, Indiana.  

Margaret was born on June 11th, 1922 in Martin County (near Rusk), Indiana to Noah Kerns and Ollie “Jones” Kerns. She also had a twin sister Blume.

She married Kenneth Hendrix on March 7th, 1943, who departed this life on December 21st, 1991. To this union was born a son – Kern and a daughter – Dianne.

She was preceded in death by her parents, (4) Sisters – Essie Mae Harder, Grace Fuhrman, Mary Harder and Blume Sherfick; and (5) Brothers – Ollis, Homer, Oscar, Alton and Bert Kerns.

June and Kenneth enjoyed their farming and Angus cattle. June loved working in her garden, flowers and sewing. They were 4-H leaders for many years.

June was a faithful member of the Powell Valley Church, former member of the W.S.C.S. and held many offices in the church. She was also a member of the Powell Valley Home Extension Club for more than 50 years and a member of the Flower and Garden Club.

Her door was always open and she enjoyed all the activities and fellowship with family and friends.

Margaret is survived by:

Gary Allen Hillard, age 63, of Orleans, Indiana entered into eternal rest on January 28th, 2016 at his residence.

Gary married Rita Middleton on September 12th, 1970 and she survives.

Gary was previously employed at Reynolds Inc. as a security guard.

Robert “Dale” Morgan, age 92, of French Lick, Indiana passed away November 11, 2013 at Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford, Indiana.

He was born on September 16, 1921 to Charles Gilbert and Mary Alvena “Gehm” Morgan.

He married Helen Lashbrooks on November 15, 1941 and she preceded him in death on October 14, 1982.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, (1) sister and (2) brothers.

He was a member of the Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church and owner of the former French Lick Feed Exchange.

Evelyn Marie Myler, age 73, of Springville, formerly of Paoli, Indiana, passed away June 29th, 2012 at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bedford, Indiana.


She was born on May 30th, 1939 to Addie “Smith” Hargis and Oakley Hargis.

She married Bryan Leroy Myler on November 11th, 1960 and he preceded her in death.

Evelyn worked as a sewing machine operator at The Shoe Factory in Paoli, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and (1) Son Roy Lee Myler.

Rhea Dawn Stidham, age 49, of French Lick, Indiana passed away June 9th, 2013 at IU Health Paoli Hospital in Paoli, Indiana.

She was born on June 7th, 1964 in Paoli, Indiana to Larry and Jane “Pendley” Archer.

She attended the Springs Valley Wesleyan Church and the Freedom Bible Church, both in French Lick, Indiana.

Rhea worked as a cook at Fast Eddie’s in West Baden Springs, Indiana and was a 1982 graduate of Shoals High School in Shoals, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Marilyn (Myers) Wilson, age 71, of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on September 25th, 2015 at the IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington, Indiana.

She was born on September 14th, 1944 in Marion County, Indiana to Harland and Vera (Calkin) Myers.

Marilyn married Earl Wilson Sr. and he preceded her in death on December 20th, 1998.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, (1) Granddaughter – Brandi Wilson and (1) Great-Grandson – Dakota Wilson.

She graduated from Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, was a member of the Red hat Society and also the Victory Baptist Church. She enjoyed attending church, spending time with her family, fixing the grandchildren waffles and playing cards with family and friends; especially Virginia and Ruby.

Marilyn was previously employed at CVS Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician and most recently at the French Lick Resort in Reservations. Her most favored occupation was being a homemaker and being with her family.

Preston A. Wininger, age 74, of French Lick, Indiana passed away September 15th, 2012  at IU Health Paoli Hospital in Paoli, Indiana.

He was born on December 14th, 1937 in French Lick, Indiana to Hollis Wininger and Grace Gottfried Wininger.

He married Madelean “Mabel” Locklear on July 2nd, 1960 and she survives.

He graduated from Birdseye High School and after high school he joined the United States Army.

Preston was a member of the Newton Stewart Lodge #432 F&AM and the American Legion Post 76 in French Lick, Indiana.

He enjoyed classic cars, loved playing Bluegrass music, and spending time with his beloved dog Jake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, (1) Brother - Laverne Wininger, (3) Sisters - Viola Grooms, Patsy Nelson, and Helen Davis, and (1) Grandson -  Jacob Rogers

Donald “Donnie” Lee Wolfington, age 73, of French Lick, Indiana entered into eternal rest on October 21st, 2015 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana.


He was born on June 13th, 1942 in French Lick, Indiana to Richard and Ida Belle (Belcher) Wolfington.

Donnie married Annette Lindley on September 30th, 1978 and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, (1) Brother – Ricky Wolfington and (1) Sister – Diane Comley.

Donnie was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 76 in French Lick, Indiana and graduated with the Springs Valley High School Class of 1960. He had previously owned the Jubil Bar in West Baden Springs, Indiana and also worked as a Construction Superintendent for Gene B. Glick Company Inc. out of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Donnie loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.

Pauline (Tolbert) Crews, age 78, of French Lick, Indiana entered in eternal rest on October 7th, 2015 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana.

She was born in Martin County, Indiana on November 13th, 1936 to Lincoln and Pearl (Allen) Tolbert.

Pauline married Vernon D. Crews on November 15th, 1953 and he preceded her in death on November 3rd, 2011.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, (1) Brother – Roy Lee Tolbert and (3) Sisters – Lorena Jones, Macie Ruth Holton and Ella Mae Goodrich.

Pauline was a Charter Member of the Springs Valley Church of the Nazarene, enjoyed spending time with family and loved to travel. She went to school at the West Baden High School. After high school, Pauline attended the Northwood College where she took business classes.

She had worked as a hair dresser and also volunteered at the West Baden Springs Hotel.

She is survived by:

Rex D. Crowder, age 67, of French Lick, Indiana passed away on February 15th, 2014 at IU Health Paoli Hospital in Paoli, Indiana.

He was born on May 26th, 1946 in Paoli, Indiana to Vincent and Wilma “Flick” Crowder.

He married Brenda Abel on August 21st, 1970 and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Rex was baptized and of the Christian faith and graduated from Springs Valley High School Class of 1964.

He worked at the Sheraton Hotel in maintenance from 1964 until 1979, and then from 1979 until 2012, he worked for the Springs Valley School Corporation doing maintenance and as caretaker of the indoor pool.

He is survived by:

Connie Mae (Beaty) Hollen, age 70, of Loogootee, Indiana entered in eternal rest on March 19th, 2015 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville, Indiana.


She was born in West Baden Springs, Indiana on September 12th, 1945 to Ernest Beaty and Ola Mae (Young) Beaty.

Connie married Danny Hollen on September 9th, 1963 and he preceded her in death in January of 2014.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, (1) Daughter – Anita Hollen, (2) Sisters – Juanita Newlin and Lillian Cave and (3) Brothers – Jack, Pewee and Douglas Beaty.

Connie was raised in the Baptist faith and graduated from the Springs Valley High School with the Class of 1963. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed walking and she also walked in Germany for vost marches.

She was a homemaker.

Vernon Lee Wininger, age 90, of French Lick, Indiana passed away on December 16th, 2014 at Johnson Christian Village in Bedford, Indiana.

He was born on June 6th, 1924 in Orange County, Indiana to Charles Audie Wininger and Della (Morris) Wininger.

Vernon married Leona A. Gilliatt on December 15th, 1950 and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, (2) Brothers – Wayne and James, and (2) Sisters – Phylis Nigg and Margaret Abel.

Vernon retired from Crane NSWC and served his county in the United States Army Air Force in World War II.

He was a member of the Red Quarry Christian Church and had been an elder there for over 35 years.
