 We Have No Mother

Death came to our home on the 7th inst. and took from us our mother dear of 85 years, she having been a member of the M.M. Church 67 years.  She has walked through the valley and the shadow of the tomb, the Savior being her guide.  She told her youngest child, Samuel, she had something to tell him and said, "I was in Heaven last night," it being Sunday night.  On Monday morning while telling this she was shouting happly and said, "It was bright as day all one solid scene," and said to her son "What is your belief?  Do you believe one goes to their destination as soon as life is past?"  He answered, "Yes."  She said, "That is my belief."  The happiest thought of my life is she lived a true Christian life and has gone to meet husband and father, of the four bereft children in that bright world above, where all is peace and joy and love.  May they all do as she desired them, meet her in heaven.  "Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord."

Norman Ikerd

Little Norman, the 4 1/2 years old son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Ikerd received severe burns, Sunday, which resulted in death on Monday night at 11:00 o'clock.

The little boy, in company with some of his playmates, had built a fire near the home and in the course of play Norman's clothing caught on fire.  The entire right side of the trunk of the body was burned and no doubt the child inhaled some of the flames.

The children's screams gave warning of the accident and the injured lad was rushed into the home and medical aid immediately summoned.

The father who was employed for a Railroad Company at Decatur, Ill. was notified of the accident and rushed to his city.  Mr. and Mrs. Ikerd and children had been making their home with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Newton for some time.  Mrs. Ikerd and Mrs. Newton are sisters.

The boy suffered great pain throughout the night, Sunday, and the following day lay unconscious most of the time.  Death came as a relief at 11:00 P.M. Monday.

Burial took place at 2:00 o'clock this afternoon at Ames cemetery.

For though from out our bourne of time and Place
