Golden Wedding Anniversary of Lemuel Jefferson Pickens, Jr.
(1848-1924) and Maria Fisher Pickens  (1856-1933)

Orleans Progress Examiner 1922

Mr. and Mrs. Lemuel Jefferson Pickens celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Tuesday, Sept. 12.  They were 74 and 66 respectively.  Mr. and Mrs. Pickens are the parents of 7 children, 2 sons dying in infancy.  There are 3 sons and 2 daughters living, with 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandson and 3 step-grandchildren.  The brothers and sisters of Mr. and Mrs. Pickens with their families were present with the exception of one brother living in Buffalo, Kansas.
The wedding anniversary was celebrated with a big dinner which that home is always able to provide and the spread was enjoyed to the fullest extent by the assemblage.
Mr. and Mrs. Pickens are among the pioneers of the county and are also one of the prominent and highly respected couples of Orange County.   They are known far and wide and their names are firmly entrenched in the minds of the people of Orleans and adjoining counties.  May they live to enjoy many more anniversaries is the wish of their numerous friends, whom the Progress Examiner heartily joins.
