Lee C. Henderson

Lee C. Henderson, b. 2-23-1876 Orange County IN d. 11-14-1961 South Bend IN, son of Wm. and Caroline Hannah (Lee) Henderson. Picture taken ca. 1898 in Baltimore prior to embarkation to the Philipines. Lee was orphaned at age 14, joined the Army and served during the Spanish American War. After the war he was an engineer for the Monon Railroad, hauling timber for Studebaker from Orange Co to South Bend. After seeing a friend killed in the switchyards, he gave up the railroad and went to work for Studebaker where he remained until his retirement in 1953. In 1902, he married Cora E. Gilliatt, daughter of Thos. Wm and Nancy Ann (Kendall) Gilliatt. Three children survived to adult hood, Clarence, Claude M., Dorothy (Phillips), and Freeda (Marnocha) .
