Stampers Creek Church 1837 - 1852 Members Primitive Baptist Church

Paoli Township, located about 3 miles East of Paoli, IN

Organized in 1818, the Stamper's Creek Primative Baptist Church is one of the oldest churches in the county. On land originally owned by George Duncan. The adjacent cemetery is well kept and serves as the resting place of many of the original county settlers. Note: Names are spelled just as they appear in the church records.

Cornwell	Peter Cornwell born in VA and married 1 June 1802 in KY to Elizabeth (Arterburn).
Pickens	They came to Orange Co, IN about 1815.

Cornwell	Henry Wolfe was born in Virginia, and with his wife, Lucy (Grigsby) Wolfe came to Orange Co, IN from Kentucky in 1813
Grigsby	They were the parents of 12 children.
Wolfe	The parents of Henry Wolfe were, John and Elizabeth (Cornwell) Wolfe, who are also thought to have come to Orange Co.
	The parents are probably either buried here in the Wolfe Family Cemetery or the Cornwell Cemetery.

Cornwell	Edward Corwell was the son of William and Mary F. (Swan) Cornwell who were natives of VA and MD.
Johnson	His mother's father was a native of the Old Dominion and her grandfather was from France.
Swan	Edward came to Orange Co, IN in Oct. 8131.
	He married Nancy Johnson, a native of Shelby County, KY and they had 7 children.
