Donald E. Mayo
JAN. 16, 1915 -- NOV. 14, 2007

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Donald E. Mayo, age 92, of Lakeland, died from a respiratory infection Wednesday, November 14, 2007. Donald was born in Joliet, IL, January 16, 1915. He attended Purdue University, graduating in 1938 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Owned and Operated the Ellettsville Lumber Company in Ellettsville, Indiana, from the early 1950s to the mid-1960s. Sold life and health insurance after closing the lumber yard and then shared operation of “Kays Doll House.” He served as President of Ellettsville Chamber of Commerce. Was a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent for many years at the Ellettsville First Baptist Church. Donald was a long time active Gideons International member while in Indiana. He moved to Lakeland from Ellettsville, IN, 12 years ago. He was very active in church activities, serving as a Deacon with the American Baptist Church of Lakeland. Donald is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Kathleen Edwards Mayo; sons, Don E. Mayo of Madison, WI, Chuck Mayo of Zephyrhills, Tom Mayo of North Fort Myers; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends at Lakeland Funeral Home Friday, Nov 16, 2007, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral Service Saturday, Nov 17, 2007, 10:00 a.m. at Lakeland Funeral Home Chapel followed by interment in Lakeland Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Baptist Church of Lakeland, 1500 W. Daughtery Rd. Lakeland, FL 33810.
