CUlver Cemetery

Adams Township - Section 23

Joe Ford was kind enough to allow this lone tombstone for Nancy Culver

located on his property to be photographed and shared with this website.

This tombstone is in the woods - almost directly across the road from the New Discovery Cemetery.

Mr. Ford states: "We've been looking in our abstract and found that Samuel Culver bought 40 acres from the United States in 1835,

and another 80 acres from Constantine Curry in 1835.  In 1848 Samuel deeded a small section (an acre and three quarters)

to The United Baptist Church in New Discovery.  In 1859, he sold his land to George Overpeck.

Mr. Ford also provided this transcription:

"After cleaning the stone with clean water and letting the stone dry, we applied flour and rubbed it with fingers - here is what we found":

"  IN MEMORY OF NANCY DAUGHTER OF SAMUEL & MARY CULVER WHO DEPARTED THIS LIFE AUG THE 20th 1845 AGE 15 YEARS

LOOK ON [unable to read] TO PASS BY AS YOU ARE NOW SO ONCE WAS I AS I AM NOW SO YOU MUST BE PREPARED FOR DEATH"

Nancy was the daughter of Samuel & Mary (Hatfield) Culver who are reported as being buried in New Discovery Cemetery

along with her sister Melvina - who married George Overpeck and later owned the property where Nancy is buried.
