Be it remembered that on the 30th day of July 1833 personally appears before me Arthur Potts Sheriff of Parke County, Lewis Thomas and Edmon Brockway who acknowledge themselves to owe and be indebted to the State of Indiana, in the sum of twenty five dollar each to be levied of their respective goods chattels lands and tenements if default be made in the following condition  which condition is that the said Lewis Thomas be and appear before the judges of the Parke Circuit Court to be holden at the court house in Rockville on the third Monday in August next and answer Said State in an indictment for an assault and battery and not depart said county without leave and abide the judgement ?

State of Indiana, County of Parke

   In the Circuit Court of said County, at the term of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty three.

                                                            TO-WIT

   The Grand Jurors for said State of Indiana, empaneled, charged and sworn to inquire in and for the body of the county aforesaid, in the name of and by and under the authority of the state of Indiana, upon their oath present that Lewis Thomas late of said county ? on the first day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight and thirty three with force and arms at the county aforesaid, in and upon the body of one Noah Dowdell in the peace of the state, then and there being did make an assault and him the said Noah Dowdell then and there did unlawfully touch, strike, beat and wound in a rude, insolent and angry manner, to the great damage of the said Noah Dowdell contrary to the form of the statute, in such case made and provided, and against the peace and dignity of the state of Indiana.
