Louis Kester, 83, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Friday, November 2, 2012 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

He was born in Mt. Vernon, IN on February 17, 1929 to Edward and Nora (Mayville) Kester.

Louis retired at the age of 75 in 2004 as an Operating Engineer with the Local 150 after more than 50 years of service. He was a dedicated family man and loved his wife and children. Louis believed there was nothing better than a hard days work. After retirement he spent much of his time working on the family farm. He enjoyed doing various task for others. Louis was an avid Nascar fan. Louis was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and Ducks Unlimited. Above all Louis loved the Lord and was a man of prayer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Kester; great granddaughter; Charlotte Kester; sister in law, Dorothy Kester. Louis is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Evoma (Wood) Kester; son, Louis “Eddie” Kester; daughters, Sondra Kester, Pamela Simpson (Roger), Brenda Stratman; grandchildren, Jason and Joshua Kester, Erin and Emily Simpson, and Manda Hess (Jake) and Brooks Stratman; 6 great grandchildren; brother, Henry Kester (Zella); several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday November 6, 2012 at Schneider Funeral Home 512 Main St. in Mt. Vernon officiated by the pastors of Boeke Rd. Baptist Church, burial to follow in Bellefontaine Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, November 5, 2012 at the funeral home.
