Betty Jane (Phelps) Lewis, 77, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 at Deaconess Hospital Main Campus.

Betty loved to cook, play bingo, and spend time with her family and friends. She never met a stranger. She worked at the White House Day Care Center for many years. Betty was a member of the American Legion Post 5 and the V.F.W. Post 1114 Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Bob, sons; Rob Lewis of Mt. Vernon and Chris and his wife Mary Ellen Lewis of Evansville, grandson, Marc Lewis of Mt. Vernon, sisters; Rozanne Bryant and Carolyn Sue Tinsley both of Mt. Vernon; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Mary (Effinger) Phelps, brothers, Bill and Fred (Junior) Phelps; sisters Lorene Reeves, Mary Catherine Garrett, Imogene Utley, and Marjorie Turner.

Visitation will be
Monday, January 28, 2013 from 2-8 p.m. at Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel, 626 First Ave., Evansville, IN 47710.

Funeral services will be at
10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in
Bellefontaine Cemetery.
