Velma Stratton, 79 of Mount Vernon, Ind., died on January 8, 2013, at Mount Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

 

She was born on August 18, 1933, in Kentucky, the daughter of Curtis R. and Kathren (Mosley) Blackburn.

 

She married John Stratton on May 10, 1953, in Mount Vernon and he survives.

Mrs. Stratton was a long-time member of the Church of God Mission, where she belonged to the Ladies Aid Mission and taught Sunday School for over 40 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, John “Dan” and Carol A. Stratton of New Harmony; four daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Cecil Scott of Princeton, Becky and Paul Turner, Nancy and John Davis, and Brenda and Bill Maxwell, all of Mount Vernon; two brothers and sister-in-law, Tom Blackburn of Delaware, Ohio and Robert and Pat Blackburn of Mount Vernon; one sister, Ann Fleming of Las Vegas, Nev.; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2013, at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.

 

Visitation was held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial was in Black Cemetery.
