Queenie M. Burks, 79 of Mt. Vernon, died Friday afternoon, March 8, 2013 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

She was born in London, England on December 16, 1933, the daughter of Henry William and Emily Louisa (Pearce) Chaney.

She married Shirley A. Burks on March 19, 1958 in Mt.
Vernon and he preceded her in death on February 9, 2013. 

Mrs. Burks was a homemaker. She proudly became a U.S. Citizen in 1979. 
She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Keith Burks and Doug (Karen) Burks of Mt. Vernon; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one brother, Henry and six sisters, Grace, Joyce, Emily, Eleen, Florrie and Ivy. She was preceded in death by three siblings. 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Stendeback Family Funeral Home, 1330 E. 4th Street, Mt. Vernon.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at the funeral home.
