Leon K. Yates, 75, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2013.

He died of a broken heart. He was a very talented dad and he was very loved by his family and will miss him terribly.

He was born March 9, 1938 in Carmi, IL to Floyd and Hazel (Wright) Yates. Leon worked at Capco and later at Westech Fence. He was an electrician, union laborer, and a foreman. Leon loved traveling.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 57 years, Charlotte Yates; and a brother, Robert Yates.

He is survived by his daughters, Vicki (Brian) Cross and Debbie Yates; son, Rick (Tamara) Yates; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11:30 am Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Schneider Funeral Home 512 Main St. in Mt. Vernon with Rev. Mark Tabor officiating and burial to follow in Black’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 am until 11:30 am service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
