Mary Martha Ranes, 92, of Mt. Vernon, IN entered into rest Saturday, November 30, 2013 in Mt. Vernon, IN.

Mary Martha was born July 29, 1921 to Charles, Sr. and Ollie (Farris) Reeves in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, where she lived all of her years.

On March 22, 1940, she was united in marriage to Francis W. Ranes, and they resided at Ranebo Fruit Farm northwest of Mt. Vernon. With the death of her husband on November 9, 1957, she was widowed at age 36, the mother of three daughters, who survive her: Barbara Judith Whitten (David); Nancy Sexton (Cecil-deceased), and Ann Fischer (George), who all reside in Mt. Vernon. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon. She faithfully worked for the Lord all of her life. She was saved at age 13 and began playing the piano for Sunday School at age 16. Down through the years, she had been church pianist, Sunday School superintendent and teacher, historian and trustee. She played for many funerals and weddings and gave piano lessons. She was a secretary-treasurer of Welborn Cemetery for many years and was a member of the Posey County Historical Society. She had worked at the Mt. Vernon Junior High Cafeteria for many years and was known as the “Cookie Lady.”

Preceding her in death were her husband, Francis W. Ranes; her parents, her brothers, Virgil and Jim Reeves; her sister Marjorie Blackburn and nephews, Tim Ranes, Phil Blackburn and Jimmie Reeves.

Survivors, in addition to her three daughters, are six grandchildren: Michael Whitten (Karen), Jeffrey Woodford (Louann), Melanie Whitten Wood (Steve), G. Tyler Fischer (Emily), Andrew Fischer (Tracy) and Tiffanny Fischer Jones (John). Also, Fourteen great-grandchildren: Brittney Whitten McLaughlin (Matt), Mallory Wood Smith (Jordan), Taylor Woodford, Kyle Whitten (Stephanie), Caleb Wood, Isaac Wood, Lucas Woodford, Madelyn Fischer, Samuel Fischer, Layne Fischer, Karis Fischer, Caleb Fischer, Elyse Fischer, and Katelyn Fischer. She has one great-great grandchild: Tobias David Smith. Also surviving are a brother, Charles of Mt. Vernon; a sister-in-law, Betty Ranes, six nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Schneider Funeral Home 512 Main St. in Mt. Vernon with Rev. Steve Wood and Rev. Derrick Ousley officiating and burial to follow in Bellefontaine Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at the Funeral Home.
