Madeline (Skaggs) Kern, age 90, of Griffin, Indiana, born April 19, 1923 to Harvey and Florence (Peace) Skaggs in Owensboro, Kentucky, died Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Bowling Green, Kentucky from complications of a stroke.
Madeline worked for several years at the Wadesville Farm Bureau Co-op. After retiring, she and her husband William (Bill) Kern spent their winters near Ft. Myers, Florida, a tradition that she continued for many years after his death on December 27, 1991. She was a kind and generous friend and neighbor and always had a smile and a joke. Madeline was a devout Christian who enjoyed studying the bible and had attended the Griffin Christian Church for over 65 years.
Aside from her parents and husband; Madeline was preceded in death by a sister: Inez Skaggs of Owensboro, Kentucky and a brother: Everett Skaggs also of Owensboro, Kentucky.
She is survived by her much beloved daughter and son-in-law: Billie Jo and Nick Lady of Bowling Green, Kentucky and two adored grandsons: Scot Lady of Florida and Brock Lady of New York
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Werry Funeral Home in Poseyville, Indiana. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Griffin, Indiana.
Visitation will be 12 p.m. until service time Friday, January 17, 2014 at the funeral home.
