Funeral services for Dalton (Bud) Alldredge,
51, of 329 East Ninth street, who died suddenly Saturday (6 Aug 1955) afternoon shortly after being rushed to Deaconess
Hospital in Evansville following illness at the summer camp of his brother,
Malcolm Alldredge, two miles south of Evansville on
the Ohio river, was held at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at Short-Niehaus Funeral Home chapel in Mt. Vernon.
Rev. A. C. Blackburn retired General Baptist minister, officiated
and burial was in Bellefontaine cemetery. Legionaries were in charge of
rites at the grave.
Shortly after reaching the river camp, Dalton Alldredge
became ill and collapsed. Coroner H. T. Combs of Vanderburgh county performed an autopsy and discovered that Alldredge had died of a heat stroke.
The deceased was well known in Mt. Vernon, having for the past 23
years been an oil and gas jobber. For many years he operated filling
stations here and in Boonville. He also was a former Posey county school
teacher.
Mr. Alldredge was a veteran of World War
II having served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific for three and a half years.
He was past commander of the local post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a
member of Mt. Vernon lodge of Elks, Beulah lodge of Masons, Moose and Owen Dunn
post, American Legion.
Near surviving relatives are his wife, Florence; a daughter, Linda
Lou; a sister, Mrs. O. D. Benner, Mt. Vernon; the brother, Malcolm Alldredge of Evansville, and the parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Alldredge, Mt. Vernon
