JOHN WEAVER ALLDREDGE

John Weaver Alldredge, Mt. Vernon, an employee of the Mt. Vernon civil city Street & Alley Department for many years before his retirement, succumbed to a month's illness at 9:05 a.m. Sunday (23 Feb 1958) at the L & R Nursing Home in New Harmony.

 

He was a lifelong resident of the Mt. Vernon community and would have been 88 years of age on the coming May 12.

 

Mr. Alldredge's long association with the Street & Alley Department made him an authority on the location of early sewers within the corporate limits of Mt. Vernon.

 

The body of the deceased is at The Short Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon where friends may call after Tuesday noon. Rev. Temas Taylor, Pastor of Mt. Vernon General Baptist Church, will conduct the funeral service at 2 p.m. Wednesday in The Short Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Old Beech cemetery in Lynn Township.

 

Mr. Alldredge was married three times, his last wife, Ruth, dying five years ago.

 

Surviving Mr. Alldredge are a son by his first marriage, L.T. Alldredge, Ojai, CA; a daughter and son by his second marriage, Mrs. George Moye, Wadesville, and John A. Alldredge, McCamey, TX; two stepsons, Edward and Kenneth Trafford, the former of Mt. Vernon; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Clyde Dunlap, Chicago; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother, Stinson Alldredge, Mt. Vernon; and a sister, Mrs. Mary Weiss, Mt. Vernon.
