MRS MARY KATHERINE ALLEN

Mrs Mary Katherine Allen, 65, of Washington, Ind., a native of Robb township, died at 7:50 p.m. last Wednesday (10 Jan 1973.)  The wife of William Brooks Allen, she was stricken with a massive coronary while entertaining dinner guests at her home.  She was dead on arrival

 

A native of Poseyville, she was the daughter of Owen and Hettie (Grant) Williams.  She was a graduate of Poseyville High School and studied voice and piano at De Pauw University.  She was married to Mt. Allen, a Washington native, Sept 11, 1926.

 

Following residence in the East, the Allens, moved to Poseyville in the 1950's.  They lived at Second and Locusts streets, now the site of the Poseyville post office.  Mrs. Allen instructed piano students, while Mr. Allen was employed by Nix Motor Sales, Inc., as a salesman.  Both were active in community affairs.

 

About 13 years ago the couple moved to Washington.  There Mrs. Allen was prominent in musical activites, contributing much time as an organist for various religious and  social functions.  She continued to give piano lessons at the home on Dewey Avenue.

 

She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Poseyville Order of Eastern Star, and Psi Iotz Xi Sorority, of which she was a past president of the Washington chapter.

 

Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Gill Funeral Home.  Dr. William R. Seat officiated, assisted by the Rev. Glenn Hazel and the Rev. Robert Wright, pastor of Christ United Methodist Church in Washington.  Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Washington.

 

Surviving besides the husband are two brothers, Elwood Williams, R. R. 1, Poseyville, and Herbert Williams, Philadelphia, Pa; nieces and nephews.
