MARTHA MAE BEHRICK

Mrs. Martha Mae Behrick 47, wife of Gilbert F. Behrick and with her husband a former resident of
Mt. Vernon died at 3:20 a.m. Sunday in Welborn Memorial Baptist Hospital in Evansville.

Mts. Behrick resided in
Mt. Vernon, native city of her husband, for a period of 10 years.  She and her husband had resided in Rockport for the last 12 years.  Mr. Behrick retired with the rank of lieutenant from the Indiana State Police in 1951.  He is at present an employe of the security division of Southern Indiana Gas & Electric Co., at the utility corporations' new Yankeetown installation.

Mrs. Behrick's death was very unexpected.  In failing health for sometime, she entered the
Evansville hospital last Wednesday.  A heart condition was the cause of death.

The body is at the Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport where
Owensboro, Ky chapter of the White Shrine, of which the deceased was chaplain will conduct a service at 7:30  o'clock tonight.  The body will be brought to the Weisinger Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon early Tuesday and friends may call at the Weisinger chapel beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday.  Rev. August E. Binder, pastor of Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church in Mt. Vernon, will conduct the funeral service in the Weisinger chapel at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.  Burial will be in Bellefontaine cemetery and Garnet chapter No. 146, Order of Eastern Star, Rockport, of which Mrs. Behrick was a past matron will conduct a service at the grave.

Surviving in addition to the husband are two brothers, Albert and Frank Swanagan,
Terre Haute.

Mrs. Behrick was a native of
Washington, Ind, where she was an exchange operator employed by Indiana Bell Telephone Co. prior to coming to Mt. Vernon to hold a similar position with Indiana Bell.

Her parent's both deceased were Anthony J. Swanagan and Mary Jane McQue Swanagan of
Washington.

The deceased was a very prominent member of women's organization associated with Masonic fraternity.  In addition to being chaplain of the Owensboro chapter of the White Shrine and a past matron of Garnet chapter, Order of Eastern Star at Rockport, she was a member of the Eastern Star Auxillary; a member of Isis Chapter No. 41, Daughters of the Nile, Evansville, publicity chairman of Al La Matrons Club of District I, and marshal in the East of Elinor Markle Memorial Court of the Amaranin of Evansville.  She also was a member of the Rockport American Legion Auxiliary, the Rockport Home Economics Club,, the Spencer County Home Economics Chorus and the Tuesday Club of Mt. Vernon.
