ETHEL JENKINS BELL

 

April 5, 1957

Mrs. Ethel Jenkins Bell, 75, member of a well-known Mt. Vernon family, died at 1 p.m. Thursday (4 Apr 1957) at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edgar Lee Katterhenry, 862 Madison, Evansville..

 

Mrs. Bell left Mt. Vernon about 28 years ago following the death of her husband, Otis C. Bell.  She was for many years a clerk in the former A. Harting & Brother department store in Mt. Vernon.

 

Illness of several years had been critical for ten days prior to her death.

 

The body is at Boone Funeral Home in Evansville where Rev. Guy D. Carpenter, pastor of Methodist Temple in Evansville will conduct the funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday.  Burial will be in Bellefontaine cemetery at Mt. Vernon.  Mrs. Bell, a former member of First Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon, was a member of Methodist Temple.

 

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Katterhenry and Mary Frances Bell, both of Evansville; three grandchildren; a brother, J. Elwood Jenkins, Atascadero, Calif., and five sisters, Mrs. Lorenz Starz, Winter Park, Fla., Mrs Mary J. Gardner, Calumet City, Ill., Mrs C. W. Whitman, Vincennes, Mrs Mabel Runder, St. Louis, and Mrs Lucille Peterson, South Bend, Ind.

 

The deceased's parents were George Jenkins and Mary Jane Topper Jenkins representatives of pioneer local families.
