MERRILL (MOCHIE) BELL

Merrill (Mochie) Bell, 59, a life-long resident of Mt. Vernon and an amateur baseball player for many years, died at 10:30 o'clock Tuesday night at his home at 742 East Second street.

 

He had been ill for the last year.  At the time he became incapacitated he was employed by Pioneer corn Co., and for a number of years was a painter.

 

His prominence on the baseball diamond came naturally.  His father was William Bell, one of Mt. Vernon's outstanding baseball pitchers who died recently.

 

The body is at the Weisinger Funeral Home and will remain there through the funeral service the Weisinger chapel.  Funeral arrangements are pending.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Thursday.

 

Surviving are the wife, Stella; three sons, Robert, Ralph and Roy, Mt. Vernon; four daughters, Mrs. Charlotte Gross, Mrs Mary York, Mrs Lois Feldman and Mrs. Betty Howell, Mt. Vernon; 11 grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Mae Wood and Mrs. Charlotte Johnson, Mt. Vernon.
