David Howard Bishop, 62, Kings coal miner
was killed by a west bound Southern troop train, just east of the Hall street crossing in Princeton about 6:30 o'clock Friday (1 Mar 1946) evening. Trainmen reported that he was sitting on
the north rail of the Southern track with his head in his hands and made no
effort to move. The engineer was unable to stop the train before hitting
the man.
The entire troop train passed over the body. Almost every
bone in the victim's body was broken and both legs severed.
The body was taken to Eldorado, Ill., today where funeral services will be
held later at the First Baptist church in Raleigh, Ill.
Mr. Bishop was a resident of the Raleigh Ill., vicinity but had been living with a
daughter, Mrs. Carl Wear, 1003 South Prince street this city. Other survivors are
daughters, Mrs. William Goings and Mrs. Joseph Davenport both of this city and
a son R. Kenneth Bishop in the U.S. Army.
