JOHN H BIXLER, POSEY MORTICIAN, IS DEAD

John H. Bixler, member of the Bixler and Werry Funeral Home, of Cynthiana, died soon after midnight Sunday (20 Dec 1954) at his home in Cynthiana.  He was 79 years old and while he had been in poor health for the past few months he apparently was his usual self until shortly before he died.

He was a charter member of the Cynthiana Christian Church and had attended Sunday School and Church Sunday.  After retiring Sunday night he seemed to have sort of sinking spell and physician was called and was attending him when death came, about 12:30.  He suffered a heart condition.

Mr. Bixler has been connected with Cynthiana business circles for many years moving from his farm to Cynthiana not too many years after the turn of the century and was in the hardware and undertaking business with the late Cecil McReynolds, and Perry Pritchett.  Then later with the late Henry Ritzel in the undertaking business and of recent years associated with Chester Werry, of Poseyville, and together they remodeled and refurnished the present funeral home in Cynthiana.

He still retained his farming interests.  For many years he had been a director and president of the Cynthiana Mutual Perpetual Building & Loan Association.  He was always active in civic affairs and took a lively interest in Cynthiana, New Liberty and communities.    He is the last of a family of several children of the late Rudy Bixler and wife.

Funeral services were conducted at the Cynthiana Christian Church Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock being in charge of the local pastor, Rev. L. E. Schmittler and a former pastor, Rev. Orville Woody, now pastor of the Christian Church at Sulphur Springs, Ind.  Interment was made in the Liberty cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his wife nee Effie Montgomery and a son Edward.

Surviving are the daughter, Mrs. Chlotiel Massey and a grand daughter, Mrs. Carol Jean Williams, both of Cynthiana.
