MELVINA JANE BLACKBURN

Funeral services for Mrs. Melvina Jane Blackburn, 81, widow of Oscar Blackburn Sr., who died at 2:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the home of her son in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. Herb Forthoffer, 321 E Fourth street, will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church at Bufkin.  Rites will be in charge of the pastor, Rev. C. E. Terrell and interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

 

Mrs. Blackburn was born in Mr. Vernon, the daughter of Elisha P and Mary Elizabeth Harrison West.  She had resided in the community all of her life.

 

She was a devout member of Mt. Pleasant Church and took an active part in affairs of the church until her age refused to permit.

 

The deceased had been ill for two years but her condition was not considered serious until a week ago.

 

Near surviving relatives are five sons, Clarence Blackburn, Mt. Vernon; P.G. Blackburn, R. R. 1, Logan, Ohio; Oscar Blackburn, Mt. Vernon, E. Phillips blackburn, Hartford City, Ind and Buford Blackburn, Evansville; two daughters, Mrs. Forthoffer, Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. Ray Goldman, Huntingburg, Ind; a brother, Elisha P. West.  Three Lakes Wis; two sisters, Mrs. Rachel Utley and Mrs. Albert Allyn both of Mt. Vernon; 18 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
