CYNTHIANA WOMAN DIES IN BRIDGE CRASH IN WARRICK COUNTY THURSDAY
A 66 year old Cynthiana woman died in a two car crash on a bridge
just east of Yankeetown last Thursday (26 Dec 1974) afternoon.
Killed in the 3:10 p.m. accident was Mrs. Delores Ann Blackford,
mother of Robert A. Williams, Sr., who heads Cynthiana Locker Plant.
Mrs. Blackford and her sister, Mrs. Charlotte Mayfield, 67, of Tell City, were traveling east toward Yankeetown
on Ind. 66 when their car was struck on the bridge by one driven by Steven
Cooper, 19 of Owensboro, Ky. The Cooper vehicle went out of control, skidded sideways and struck Mrs. Blackford's car head-on. Mrs. Mayfield was critically
hurt, and is a patient in St. Marys' Hospital in Evansville.
A passenger in the Cooper auto, Mrs. Gladys Payne, 49, of Owensboro, was also seriously hurt, and was listed
in critical condition at St. Mary's.
The driver, Cooper, and his wife, Diane, 19 were treated and
released at the hospital. Mrs. Payne is Mrs. Cooper's mother.
Authorities at the scene said it is believed the bridge was icy at
the time of the accident.
Funeral services for Mrs. Blackford were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Boone Funeral Home in Evansville. Burial was in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Surviving besides the son at Cynthiana and the sister are another
son, Henry Williams of Evansville; a daughter, Mrs. Adeline Ashby of Charlestown, Ind; another sister, Mrs. Ethylene Bayes of Evansville; her father, Henry D. Badger of Evansville; and 13 grandchildren.
