VERNON BLANKENBERGER

Vernon F. Blankenberger, of 8904 N. State Road 65, Cynthiana, died at 8:41 a.m. Sunday, January 26, 1992, at his home after an illness.

 

He had owned Southern Indiana Drainage Co., and was a retired farmer.

 

A Democrat, he was serving as president of the Posey County Council at the time of his death.  He was serving his fifth term on the council.

 

He was also a Smith Township East Precinct committeeman, a job he had held since 1968.

 

He was a life member of St. Wendel Catholic Church.  He also was a member of Knights of St. John, American Diabetes Association, Indiana Farm Bureau, American Legion Post 278, Mended Hearts, Association of Indiana Counties, Cynthiana Chamber of Commerce and Senior Citizens of Cynthiana.

 

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

 

Surviving are his wife of 37 years, the former Bernice Meny, four daughters Rita Ripple of Cynthiana and Donna Nix, Brenda Garris and Judy Voegel, all of Poseyville; a son, Gregory of Cynthiana; four brothers, Cletus of Evansville, Adolph of Haubstadt, Joseph of Cynthiana and Sylvan of Kokomo, Ind., and seven grandchildren.

 

Services will be at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home, continuing at 10:30 at St. Wendel Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
