Funeral services for Kathryn R. Blankenship 16, of Mt. Vernon, were conducted Tuesday at Miller and Miller Colonial Chapel in Evansville with burial in St. John's Cemetery near Bufkin.

 

The former Mt. Vernon High School student died at 1:26 a.m. Saturday, January 7, at Welborn Baptist Hospital about three hours after being involved in an auto accident on an icy Evansville street.

 

The car in which she was riding skidded on Shadewood Ave., hitting a fence, a utility pole and three trees.

 

Her boyfriend Donald McNeal, was critically injured.  Both were passengers in the backseat of a car driven by Mark Haskins of Evansville.

 

Hospital officials said that Miss Blankenship suffered a fractured pelvis, neck and head and internal injuries.

 

She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Blankenship of Mt. Vernon, two brothers, Brian, at home, and Mark, in Hawaii, and her grandmother, Mrs. Ann Blankenship of Evansville.
