LEMUEL O BUCHANAN

Lemuel O Buchanan, 84, a retired farmer residing on R. R. 1 and a highly respected, life-long resident of the Mt. Vernon community, died early Sunday (19 Jun 1955) afternoon at his home.

 

Death severed marital bonds of 62 years.  The surviving wife is the former Loretta Utley, who, like her husband is a representative of a prominent, pioneer local family.

 

Mr. Buchanan's body is at the Short-Niehaus Funeral Home.  It will remain there until noon Wednesday when it will be taken to Mt. Pleasant General Baptist Church at Bufkin, of which the deceased had been a member for many years.  Rev. C. E. Terrell, Mt. Pleasant Church pastor, will conduct the funeral service at the church at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.  Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery, of which Mr. Buchanan was sexton for many years.

 

Although in failing health for several years, the deceased had been seriously ill only since last Wednesday.

 

Surviving, in addition to the aged wife, are two sons, Harvey Buchanan, Detroit, and Everett Buchanan, R. R. 1, Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Mrs. Alvin Holt, R. R. 3, Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. Edgar Elrod, Mt. Vernon; eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Corilla Breeze, Mt. Vernon.

 

Mr. Buchanan's parents were William Buchanan and Lois Parks Buchanan.
