Widow Ex-Local Editor Succumbs

Mrs. Janie Calkins, widow of Clinton G. Calkins and with her husband as resident of Mt. Vernon for a number of years during Mr. Calkins local newspaper career, died yesterday at her home in Indianapolis.

 

Funeral service and burial will be at Indianapolis Saturday afternoon.

 

Mr. Calkins was publisher of The Evening Sun, former Mt. Vernon newspaper.  For many years after his local residence he was a compositor in the mechanical department of the Indianapolis Star.  Mr. and Mrs. Calkins were very active members of  First Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon during their residence here and were prominent in music circles of the community including the church choir.  Mrs Calkins was a charter memeber of the Mt. Vernon Cotele, a women's club.

 

Surviving Mrs. Calkins are a brother, Thomas H. Riggs, Princeton, Ind; a sister, Mrs Miles Drake, Franklin and two son, Richard and Harry both of Indianapolis.
