CHARLES GORDON CARR

 

MOUNT VERNON - Charles Gordon Carr, 88, of Mount Vernon, Ind., passed away Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind.

 

Charles was born June 7, 1918, in Posey County, Ind., son of Clarence and Grace (Boyd) Carr.

 

Charlie graduated form MVHS in 1938 and attended the University of Evansville. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, having served in the South Pacific including Hawaii, Guadalcanal and New Guinea. He was a member of Owen Dunn American Legion Post 5 in Mount Vernon, VFW Post 1114 in Evansville, and was a charter member of the 108th Infantry Association in Rochester, N.Y. Charlie was also a member of Mount Vernon First United Methodist Church, Western Hills Country Club, a life member of the Elks Lodge 277 and a member of the M Men's Club. Charlie retired from Farm Bureau Oil Co. in 1984 and pursued his passion for golf. He will be remembered for the love he expressed for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

 

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Georgia Catherine (Horton) Carr; his daughter, Ann Dewig and her husband, Ron, of Evansville; brothers, Bob Carr, of Mount Vernon, Herb Carr, of Findlay, Ohio and Paul Carr, of Cadiz, Ky.; grandchildren, Jarred and Jason Fisher, Barbara Dixon and Melissa Dewig; great-grandchildren, Cassie Fisher, Wyatt and Wade Dixon.

 

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, at Austin Funeral Home, 1330 E. Fourth St., Mount Vernon, Ind., with burial in Mount Pleasant Cemetery at Bufkin, with military rites by Owen Dunn American Legion Post 5. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 18, at the funeral home.

 

Memorial contributions may be made in Charlie's memory, to The First United Methodist Church, 601 Main St., Mt. Vernon, IN 47620; or to Deaconess Hospital Home Health Care Services.
