OWEN C CARR 67, Sacremento, Calif, a native of Mt. Vernon and an Evansville business and civic leader for many years
died at 7 p.m. Saturday (27
Sep 1952) in
a hospital in Berkley, California.
He was the son of Mrs. Samuel C. Carr, Mt. Vernon, Ind.
Heart disease, which four years ago forced him to retire from the insurance
business in Oakland, Calif., was the cause of death. To escape
coastal conditions unfavorable to his health he moved from Oakland to Sacramento.
RITES IN CALIFORNIA
The body is at the Berkley Hills Chapel and funeral
rites and burial will be in California.
Surviving, in addition to the 88 years old mother in Mt. Vernon, are the wife,
Mabel, a native Californian; son, Henry; three brothers, G. Wilfred Carr,
Daytona Beach, Fla., Charles Carr, Paterson, N. J. ; and Sherman C Carr, Murphsyboro, Ill, and a sister Mrs. Mary Carr Finn, Mt.
Vernon.
The deceased was a native of Mt. Vernon, a son of Samuel C. Carr and Nancy Bray
Carr. After attending Mt Vernon schools he was graduated from Lockyear's Business College in Evansville and entered the employ Hercules Body
Company, predecessor to Servel. Later he become an
official of the Morris Plan Bank and then the Central Union Bank in Evansville and took a leading role in the erection
of what is now known as the Hulman building in Evansville. He was a prominent member of Bethel Evangelical Church during his long
residence in Evansville and active in Evansville civic affairs.
In 1932 Mr Carr located in California.
He devoted years of service to the Masonic fraternity and was an officer
of the Masonic High Twelve for a number of years. It was while serving as
president of the High Twelve that he made his last visit in Mt. Vernon three years ago, en route to a national
convention in Louisville, Ky.
He was stationed in Europe with American Occupational Forces for two years.
Upton return to the U. S. he entered the employee of Westinghouse
at Huntington.
The deceased was a member of the Masonic and Shrine fraternities and of Enslow Park Presbyterian Church in Huntington.
