BERTHA HARBERT

 

April 24, 1956

Mrs. Bertha Harbert, 82, a highly respected, life-long resident of the Mt. Vernon community and a representative of two pioneer local families, died at 7:10 p.m. Monday (23 Apr 1956) at her home at 429 E. Eighth street.  Although she had been ill for a number of years Mrs. Harbert died unexpectedly after assisting in washing the supper dishes.

 

The deceased husband was Alonzo Harbert.

 

Mrs. Harbert's parents were Romelia J. Mills and Caroline Bush and she was born northeast of Farmersville.

 

The body is at Short-Niehaus Funeral Home and will remain there through the funeral service set for 2 p.m. Thursday in Short-Niehaus chapel.  the officiating clergyman will be Rex. M. Mitchell, minister of First Christian Church.  Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery at Bufkin.

 

The deceased was a member of Mt. Pleasant General Baptist Church at Bufkin.

 

Surviving are a daughter, Miss Myrtle Harbert, who resided with her mother; another daughter, Mrs. Herbert Schaefer, Mt. Vernon,  and a granddaughter, Mrs. Donald Medcalf, Mt. Vernon.
