EMMA SCHNACK HELLENBERG

Mrs. Emma Schnack Hellenberg 75, a devout Christian and a life-long resident of the Mt. Vernon community, died at 3:20 p.m. Thursday (20 Feb 1958) at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville where she had been a patient for observation and treatment since Feb 5.

 

She was the wife of J. Herman Hellenberg, a prominent farmer residing on R.R. 4 northwest of mt. Vernon.  They had been married 33 years.

 

Mrs. Hellenberg was born northwest of Mt. Vernon a daughter of Fred Schnack and Elizabeth Biemueller Schnack, representatives of early local German families.

 

The body is at The Short Funeral Home where friends may call after 2 p.m. Saturday.

 

It will be taken to Trinity United Church of Christ at noon Monday and will lie in state there until 2 p.m. Monday when Rev. August E. Binder, Trinity Church pastor, will conduct the funeral service.  Burial will be in Bellefontaine cemetery.

 

Mrs. Hellenberg had been a devout member of Trinity Church since childhood.

 

Surviving in addition to the husband, are a daughter, Mrs. Luther Woodward, Mt. Vernon; a son, J. Herman Hellenberg Jr., Mt. Vernon; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Fred P Dietz and Miss Marie Schnack, Mt. Vernon, and a brother, Carl Schnack, Mt. Vernon, who is employed at an Indianapolis railroad station.
